It was a normal day under Name Mountain.
It was as normal as you could get, when you live in a cave under a mountain with two SeaWings, two SandWings, a NightWing, a RainWing, and a MudWing.
"Be quiet!"
Kestrel was in a foul mood. First, she was woken up at whatever ludicrous time in the morning - she didn't know what time exactly, but it was far before the sun rose - then someone brought in a goat and set it on FIRE (What were they thinking? It was charcoal within seconds of the initial fire.), then the destined hatchlings just had to be shouting about feathers. FEATHERS! They were far away from anywhere there would be feathers.Three Moons, this is just so...
Kestrel plunged into the main cave "What is so important that it couldn't wait until-"
She froze at the sight of the main cave. Everything was a mess, feathers were everywhere, the dragonets were still jumping around like demented, monkey-keeping RainWings, and an electric bird (Seriously? Who would make food electric?)
The oddest thing was the set of five scrolls, set out in a line, and their labels.
The Dragonet Prophecy? The Lost Heir? What is this drivel?
Her attention was soon drawn again to the dragonets and their hunting of the electric food.
"Stop wrecking the main cavern or I swear I will end you!"
Kestrel, having defeated the dragonets, was about to go back to her room when she slipped on... something.
It was a note.
Dear Kestrel, Dune, Webs, and Dragonets,
You may be wondering how a Thunderbird has made it to your tiny set of caves, or, indeed, why a Thunderbird is here at all.
I regret to inform you that you are in grave danger.
Read these books. Make better decisions next time around. And, most of all, burn these scrolls once you finish reading them. The future of this world rests on you.
Good luck!
-The Thunderbird Keeper
Kestrel looked at the note in disbelief. Who...
"Webs, Dune, get over here!"
All of the dragons that lived in the caves had gathered in the main cavern. "Kestrel, what's going on?"
"Look at this."
Webs looked at the scrolls. "It's just a couple of scrolls, Kestrel. What's this all about?"
"Look at this."
Webs looked at the note. "Kestrel, why did you call us here to look at a note from... a... totally unknown dragon."
"What?"
"Exactly!"
Everything fell into chaos.
"I guess we should read the scrolls..."
"Kestrel, you start."
"No, Webs will be reading these."
"What? No, Dune can read them."
The cavern descended into chaos again.
"Is it just me, or do these scrolls look animus-touched?"
All was silent. The scrolls lay haphazardly across the floor. The note was nothing but ashes.
Starflight picked up a scroll.
"The Dragonet Prophecy."
There was a flash of light, and two more Skywings joined the group.
"What was-"
Five other dragons fell from the ceiling.
Chaos reigned again in the crowded caves.
"I think we should actually read the scrolls now."
There was a general buzz of disagreement.
Starflight started reading anyway.
"Prologue..."
A/N: I tried...
Here is the result of me sitting down and trying to write a characters-read-the-books story.
Edit 12/3/2016: Fixed formatting, edited A/N back in, fixed books/scrolls error.
