A/N: Fail title is fail. XD It comes from a mixture of the two phrases used in the story, which are the mottoes of Switzerland and Austria, respectively. Switzerland's motto is totally "all for one, one for all" which I found highly amusing. Written for my Germany for Christmas.

Disclaimer: I own nothing. I wish I did. That would be epic-cool.

All For the Whole World

"Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro un."

It suddenly occurred to Vash, as he carried his small, beaten companion back towards his home, that this was probably about the hundredth time that he had saved the Austrian from a fight of some kind. For some reason, it seemed like every time Roderich got into a fight, Vash had to swoop in and save the day. Of course, he didn't mind that very much. It was in his nature, after all! He liked to think of himself as a sort of… knight. Someone who protects those who couldn't protect themselves.

But that didn't mean he wasn't going to give Roderich hell for making him bail him out all the time!

Scowling, Vash shot a glare over his shoulder at the boy riding on his back and hefted him to a more comfortable position. "Geez, Roderich. How many times have I done this for you? You need to learn to take care of yourself! What'd I teach you for, anyway?"

The Austrian on his back simply smiled through the puffy eye that was starting to swell his entire face in an odd way. "I lost count," he answered quietly, still smiling, which only made Vash look even more peeved. "But you always come through for me, Vash," Roderich continued, his tone sounding much too cheery for someone who had just gotten the snot beaten out of them.

Bouncing the boy on his back, Vash came to a sudden start and dropped the Austrian on his backside. Vash drew a small amount of contentment from the yelp of pain Roderich gave as many of his bruises and breaks were jarred heavily by the fall. A moment later, though, he felt ridiculously bad, because really, Roderich looked like he was in so much pain, how could he not feel bad?

Vash squatted down next to Roderich and poked the other boy on one of his bruises, pretending like he didn't care that the Austrian was in pain. "Just because I come through for you doesn't mean I'm always going to!" he finally retorted angrily, poking the bruise once more just for emphasis.

"A-ah! Ow, Vash, stop it!" Roderich slapped his hand away and then straightened himself up. "I'll survive… Even if you're not around. I am Austria!"

Suddenly looking less optimistic about the whole thing, and actually seemed slightly fearful, Roderich deflated slightly and tilted his head at Vash, bringing a hand up to rub his puffy cheek. "But you're not going to not be around… are you?"

Everything in Vash wanted to tell Roderich that he would never leave him alone. Of course not! The Austrian was his best friend in the whole world, and he cared deeply for his friend. But it was against his nature to admit to such things, so he simply pouted heavily, crossed his arms, and looked away.

"You never know, Roderich! One day I might not be able to save you anymore." He paused, looking at his friend, and actually grinning slightly. "Or I'll get tired of doing it all the time."

Roderich grinned as the Swiss stood back up and he felt himself being pulled onto the other's back once again. "You'll never do that, Vash. You care too much. You know you'll never get far like that."

Grumbling, Vash started the long trudge home again. "Bah. Shows what you know!"

But Vash knew that Roderich was right. He could never abandon someone he cared so much about. Because he was a knight! Meant to save people! Even those who should be able to stand on their own.

"Austriae est imperare orbi universo."
