Not Really a Surprise

Summary: Neji doesn't particularly want a birthday party, hasn't had one in at least a decade, really. Not that Tenten's going to listen to his protests.

When Neji starts to climb the last two flights of Tenten's apartment in the early morning, the only thing he hears is shouting. More specifically, Tenten shouting.

"LEE! Stop eating the frosting! Go out and distract Neji, and do. Not. Tell. Him. About. This. Party. Understood?" Words probably punctuated by very sharp (dangerous) weapons waving around, Neji thinks wryly, but continues up.

"AND GAI-SENSEI! Don't mess with the streamers! Or the hats. Touch. Nothing. No, we are not dyeing everything green, get out and find Hinata or I will stab you full of holes, sensei or not! OUT!"

There's a crash and a showering of wood chips from Tenten's (former) door, and the two youthful beasts of Konoha come barreling down the stairwell. And catch sight of Neji. And stop dead.

"Hello, Lee, Gai-sensei." He tries to push past, only for them to drag him back downstairs.

Neji looks on, slightly annoyed, as they put their heads together and whisper for a full five minutes before screaming "YOSH! Commence operation!" Cue blinding beams of light.

"Let us spar, my rival, on this beautiful day of sweet smelling birds and chirping flowers!" Lee nervously leads him (grabs him and doesn't let go, really) to Training Field 7, hopping up and down and trying desperately not to look like he is hiding something. And failing miserably.

Well, I won't get to talk to Tenten anyway with this goofball following me...

"Let's spar," Neji sighed.

"Surprise!"

Neji blinks as the lights in Tenten's apartment suddenly go on, and all of his friends jump out from behind the couch.

"Thank you," he says, indifferent as ever in the outside, but inside there's a warm and fuzzy feeling. Quite nice, actually.

Later when the party is in full swing and liquor is being passed all around, Tenten sidles up to him.

"So, I bet you were really surprised, huh?"

"Yes, this is really nice. Thank you for planning it."

"I never told you I-"

Oops.

"...you knew all along, didn't you." Tenten put her hands on her hips and leaned in. "You heard in the morning, while we were arguing. Right?"

"At least... The decorations aren't green?"

Please let it be the right thing to say...

The anger melts slowly, and Tenten just laughs and shakes her head. "Whatever. But you do need to pay me back..."

She playfully taps her lip, considering, before leaning in and stealing a kiss. "That'll do."

Shocked, Neji allows her to propel him into the midst of the partying, shouting out "Present time!"

A/N: Just a silly birthday fic. It's horrible, actually, but there's fluff at least. Right? Right...?

Anyways, reviews would be wonderful :P
