Silent and calm,
He must always be,
Not a word would be spoken,
Not a secret could be freed.
A pad and paper could be used,
As his lips could never.
So with a needle and thread,
He sewed them together.
Now he wouldn't be asked,
For a single word,
Of where he'd been,
Of what he'd heard.
For if he was ever found out,
He would be hung in a minute,
As his brothers anger,
Would have no limit.
Content and appeased,
He must always be,
No tears shall fall,
Not a beg nor plea.
So under his eye,
In replace of tears,
He drew four spikes,
For the future years.
Now he could cover up his pain,
Over their father being shot,
Over Dolfy's mad hatred,
And destructive new plot.
For if he was caught,
Showing discontent,
He would be shot and wounded,
Then beaten and bent.
Pleased and glad,
He must always be,
To satisfy his brother,
He must greet him with glee.
So over his lips,
He painted a smile,
An expression he hadn't
Made in a while.
Now if he frowned,
It wouldn't be seen,
It would be hidden beneath,
A thick red screen.
For if he was suspicious,
His throat would be slit,
Before he could land,
A single hit.
Loyal and proud,
He must always be,
To sit by his captain,
And sail the sea.
So he wore a coat,
One similar to his brother,
And bore the heart symbol,
In place of another.
Now he could display,
His 'never-dying' love,
Yet instead cold detest,
Was all he could think of.
He'd seen it before,
The forfeit for betrayal,
He'd be shot in a second,
Only the loyal must prevail.
But after many years,
Of this clever deceit,
The plan was abandoned,
And left incomplete.
Somehow a child
Found it into his heart,
He found himself helping
and quick to depart.
He took out the stitches,
And spoke to the boy,
He told him his secrets,
And survival ploy.
He cried freely again,
Outside his silent bubble,
A pent up despair,
For the child's hard struggle.
He smiled though the mask,
With a genuine grin,
When he accomplished his goal,
To cure Law's white skin.
And happily he died,
With a smile on his face,
A tear in his eye,
And Law's safety in place.
And all this was caused,
By a strange warmth in his heart,
A warmth called love,
Which pulled his life apart.
'Hey, Law... I love you.'
A tribute to one of my favourite characters of all time.
