"That one might have been a little too hard, Jira!" I shouted, running to try to catch the ball that my best friend, Jira, threw. Too focused on the ball, I accidentally crashed into a strange man with a very big ship. Immediately, I jumped up and offered to help the poor man up, repeatedly apologizing while I was at it.
"No worries, Naila." He told me, ignoring my outstretched hand. In surprise, I jumped a little, before asking him, "How do you know my name?"
Meanwhile, Jira was busy yelling at me, asking about what was happening. After some time, she gave up trying to get my attention and instead, decided to come over to see for herself.
"I have a very special request for you and your friend," He said, "are you and Jira willing to come with me for an experiment?"
Jira, who just got there, questioned, "What kind of experiment?" The man answered more harshly, "It is a government powered experiment and unless you would like to end up in jail, I would help." Now, in a calmer voice, the man said, "Miss Tei, Miss Nech, please, follow me." Then, he walked off toward the very large ship. Too confused to refuse, we simply followed him.
On the ship was a few rooms, one of which seemed like a surgeon's room. He led me into the room, where I was immediately thrown onto the surgery table, face down. He, along with some new random people, strapped me down to the table, despite my protests. Then, swiftly, he jammed a syringe in my neck. As he injected the contents of the syringe into my body, I was screaming, watching as my eyesight slowly drained away, dragging the world into total darkness. I passed out as he started pulling the syringe back out again.
Waking up, I noticed that one thing was definite, and that was that the world was pitch black. I could obviously feel that my eyes were open, so why couldn't I see anything? Nothing was on my face, especially anything that would impair my vision. Trying to stand up groggily, I took a quick breath in with my nose. At that, my brain seemed to react. I could smell some shapes, though they were all blurry, and found Jira, though now her hair smelled like black licorice and her skin, like peaches.
"What the heck?" I murmured, pulling myself to my feet before almost falling down.
Jira caught me, holding me until I was stable enough to stand on my own. "Whoa there champ," She said, "you alright?"
I sniffed in a bit, exploring my new ability. "No... I got a fucking needle full of shit jammed into my neck. How do you think I feel, genius?" I responded, hoping no one but her had heard me as profanity was never at the top of my "Usual Activities" list and in fact, tried to avoid it when I can.
"I don't know?! Fine? I can tell how you feel, stupid. Your eyes are red." She said, plainly.
"Red?" I asked urgently, "How red?"
"As far as I can tell, there are no other colors." She said, shrugging her shoulders.
Then, another figure came in behind me, but I couldn't smell that, I felt it. The vibrations in the air hit me as he moved.
"That was only to be expected." He said calmly. Turning around, I almost lost my balance again. "What we gave you was a mutation. You had lost your eyesight by the looks of it, though you seem like you can see just fine."
"Sure, if you really call what I can do 'seeing'." I muttered with light mockery in my voice. By then, I had already gotten stable enough to walk, so I tried to move a bit.
"Well then, I see you can now move fine as well so I will leave you to exploring your new abilities." He said before turning and walking out the door. We were left alone to our own business until we arrived at the new planet.
