Can't You See, You Belong With Me

Elphaba gazed across the library, seeing that the prince of the Vinkus was there, Prince Fiyero, blushed. She lowered her eyes back on the book and read. "There's no point." She thought furiously. "He's already taken by Galinda, and anyway, I'm green." He picked up his phone and started talking to someone on there. "Probably Galinda." Turning her green Ipod Shuffle on and putting in her earbuds, she found the song she wanted. She quietly sang, "You're on the phone with your girlfriend, she's upset. She's going off about something that you said, 'cause she doesn't get your humor like I do. I'm in the room, it's a typical Tuesday night, listening to the kind she doesn't like. And she'll never know your story like I do..."

Moving out of the library to the playing field, where Galinda was helping with at cheer practice, continued, "But she wears short skirts, I wear T-shirts. She's Cheer Captain and I'm on the bleachers, dreaming about the day when you wake up and find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time. If you could see that I'm the one who understands you, been here all along, so why can't you see? You, you belong with me, you belong with me." Knowing that this could be more than a crush, when Galinda asked her if she wanted to go and hang out at the only place in town where you could go if you went to Shiz University. She quickly replied that she wanted to go. There was a chance that Galinda would forget to come.

Dressed in the fashion for emerald-skinned girls, she walked and saw Fiyero standing there. He waved to her, her heart seeming to skip a beat. "Walking the streets with you and your worn-out jeans,
I can't help thinking this is how it ought to be. Laughing on a park bench, thinking to myself
'Hey, isn't this easy?' And you've got a smile that could light up this whole town,
I haven't seen it in a while since she brought you down. You say you're fine, I know you better than that. Hey, what ya doing with a girl like that?" She whispered, noting Galinda. "She wears high heels, I wear sneakers. She's Cheer Captain and I'm on the bleachers, dreaming about the day when you wake up and find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time. If you could see that I'm the one who understands you, been here all along, so why can't you see? You belong with me."
Standing at his dorm room, waiting for Galinda to come out of there, since they had sorcery class, sang, " Standing by and waiting at your back door, all this time how could you not know?
Baby, you belong with me, you belong with me." Thinking that maybe Galinda wasn't there, she stumbled into him and said, "Hi. I was looking for Galinda..?" "Oh, I dunno where she is. Want me to take you to your room and see if she's there?" Elphaba nodded. Sometimes actions spoke better than words did.

"Oh, I remember you driving to my house in the middle of the night, I'm the one who makes you laugh when you know you're 'bout to cry. And I know your favorite songs and you tell me 'bout your dreams, think I know where you belong, think I know it's with me." While they walked, he asked her if she would want to go to the dance later that night. "Yes!" She replied, squealing. She was going on a date!'

"Can't you see that I'm the one who understands you?, been here all along, so why can't you see? You belong with me! Standing by and waiting at your back door, all this time, how could you not know? Baby, you belong with me, you belong with me." She whispered in his ear.

At the Ozdust later that night, Elphaba told the last of the story, "You belong with me, have you ever thought just maybe you belong with me? You belong with me."
