The whole of Chicago was silent. Walking through the city at 2:00 AM was the last thing that Jess would seen doing on a normal day. But no one in their right mind would call today a normal day. Then again, when was it ever a normal day in the life of Jessica Day, especially when it came to him. God when will it get easier! All day the only thing I can think about is him and it doesn't help that he lives with me. Jess was usually a moderately sane person, but with his dad's funeral and his mother... Ugh, his mother. Why does she hate me so much? What did I ever do to her? Where does she get off calling me a gold digging home-wrecker?! He didn't even say anything to defend me... This was what hurt Jess the most. Why hadn't he said anything to defend her. Did he actually think that she was a home wrecker?! Well did he?
Jess had now wandered so far from the house, that she didn't know how to find her way back and her phone was dead, so no GPS. Not that she cared. She could stay lost forever and no one would probably notice, except maybe her parents... and Cece. When she came to a street corner, Jess noticed a small pond nearby and decided to hang out there till morning. Jess had almost reached the corner when she noticed the lights of a small house next to the pond turn on. Oh crap! Am I about to get arrested for trespassing? Shit! Jess stopped immediately as the front door of the house open. She couldn't make out the person's face but she could tell that it was a tall, large man. Suddenly, Jess' fear took over and she began to slowly back as the figure came closer and closer.
"Jess? Jessica Day? Is that you" said a low, gravely voice. Jess froze on the spot. She knew that voice. It was one she had known for 7 of her middle and high school years. Sure he had a slightly higher voice back then, but there was no mistaking the short, sweet words that crept from his mouth. Jess smiled as the face of Johnny Imund slowly came into the light. She could definitely tell it was him now, with his blue-brown eyes and "impossibly tan for living in the Northeast all his life" skin.
"Hi Johnny." whispered Jess.
"Oh my God, it is you! Ha! This is crazy!" Johnny exclaimed as he picked up Jess and spun her around in his warm hug. Jess almost melted on the spot but pulled herself together enough to stand up without falling into his arms. "Here come inside. It's freezing out here. Besides we have so much to catch up on." said Johnny. Before Jess could even open her mouth, Johnny had already snatched up her hand and begun slowly pulling her to the house. But Jess didn't really feel the need to protest. Even though she hadn't seen Johnny in years, the moment she knew it was him, she felt the safest she had been all day.
"It's good to see you too Johnny."
