- This is just a little short that popped into my head, I hope it is enjoyable.
Promises
"I love you."
He knew she had cried out, but the crushing sound of the crumbling environment, and his own fading strength took away what ever word she may have said. Even with Amshel's broken fingers protruding through him, Haji would have followed her. Yet when the balconies and walls fell to entomb him with the other Chevalier, he could only feel the desire to go after her. To protect her. Stuck in the suffocating, dark prison, Haji waited. He was pinned and broken, but a part of him wanted to keep going. Something made him move, and one of his hands dragged itself through the rumble. Haji didn't really believe that he was moving.
Straining, his hand broke apart of the fingers that stuck through his chest. He wanted to stop. Why was he moving?
'Promise me…'
What did he promise her? In the end, it was his own wish that brought him to this situation. Saya was alive, and he was going to die. He had broken his promise with her. His bleeding body acted on its own accord, trying to free itself. But why should he? Haji had broken his promise.
'…I will protect you…'
How could he have forgotten so quickly? His slow, unsure movements became swift and decisive. He had broken one promise, but he had another to keep. If Saya was to live, he would be there. He would stand there, and protect her through the ages. Haji would make it up to her, that one broken promise would be a heavy weight for him. He wasn't fully sure, but as his hand broke through the crushing prison, he was planning on how to make it up to her. How to be with her, when she reawakened.
