She knew.
She knew that she would never be like Fiora, with her elegance, grace, and whatever made her attractive to Shulk.
Why was she having these feelings anyway?
Melia tried to squash the foolish sentiments deep in her mind, but they kept on popping back up.
It simply wasn't fair.
Even looking out to the magical Eryth Sea, gold by the dying sun didn't help.
Dear Mum,
Why does Bionis hate me so? I seem to have these feelings for a Homs boy I've told you about, Shulk. But he already has his significant other. I can't and I won't
Melia abruptly closed her journal, and stored it away. It just hurt even writing about it.
"Melia? Are you okay?" The accent of which Shulk's voice not only filled the air, but also her heart. She smiled sadly, not turning around to face him.
"Yes, I suppose so." She could hear him walking then leaning on the railing next to her.
"Melia, if there's anything… Anything we can do for you, just say it." He put his hand on her shoulder and Melia glanced over to him. Knowing he got her attention, Shulk continued, "I can say for all of us, Reyn, Riki, Sharla… We- we really enjoy having you here with us- " It was now that Melia burst into tears.
She hated how much his blue? cerulean? sapphire? eyes made her stomach turn into butterflies. She despised how his hair glowed golden in the sunset. She detested how his alluring personality was completely oblivious to her feelings.
Or were those feelings toward to herself? How she could never be as strong as Shulk? How she could never be his? How she was merely a damsel in distress when they found her?
Unsure of what to do, Shulk pulled Melia into an embrace as she cried into his shoulder. She hugged him back tightly like she was never going to let go.
As her sobs died out as the sun was sinking into the horizon, she knew that this would be one of the only times she would have Shulk to herself. As selfish as her desires of having him always by her side, she knew that would never happen.
"Thank you, Shulk." Melia whispered.
For being present in my life.
