The house was nearly in complete silence.

All that was heard was the soft crackling of the fire, laughing quietly inside the grate.
A young wolf laid in front of the fire, half-asleep, yet listening expectantly for his master's call. He wore a silver bracelet around his right foot, which was an exact match to that of his owner's. His owner was a lonely, aging woman. They both relied on each other for comfort and protection, and the bond between the old lady and her wolf was remarkable, considering he was found in the wild. They loved each other dearly.
"Toboe...Toboe!" the old lady called raspily from another room.
The wolf raised it's head from the floor, tail wagging automatically, and looked over towards the woman in the kitchen, panting, mouth gaped open in a wolfish smile.
The old woman was preparing the dog's meal on the kitchen counter, lit only by a lamp-light on the ceiling. "You're a good boy, Toboe." she said as she picked up the dish of food. Turning towards the hearth-room, the old lady said, "Let's eat." and began to walk.
The brown wolf didn't want to wait; he leapt to his feet with a whine, and trotted over to the old lady clumsy with excitement. The wolf began to paw at her apron, her legs, the dish in her hands, panting happily.
But the old woman was frightened. "Stop it, stop it I said!" cried the old lady weakly.
Regardless, even as she spoke, Toboe the wolf rose up onto his hind legs and pushed on the lady with his front paws. The woman could not stand with the animal's weight; she was weak, frail, and so she fell over backwards with a startled cry, the dish falling with a metallic thud, it's contents spilling over the rug.
On top of his master now, the wolf began to lick the old woman's face affectionately, whining softly, tail wagging.

The old lady gave a soft cry of pain, and she raised her hand up in the air to stop him. Toboe..." she groaned, her voice breaking. "I...I cant breathe..." She took in a few jerking breaths as she tried to keep her old heart beating. 'Toboe...!" she whispered faintly.

Her hand trembled in the air before going limp, falling to the floor, the silver bracelet jingling.
Toboe gazed into the old woman's face, panting, tail wagging behind him. He waited for her to speak, to laugh, to reach up her frail hand and stroke his fur. But...
The longer he waited, the more dread sank in.
His wolfish smile faded into a gape of alarm.
His tail slowly stopped wagging, making one last happy loop behind his back, once he realized what he had done.
The old woman was dead– he had killed her.
