Hi, y'all! I know I'm in the middle of another fic, but this idea bit and wouldn't let go. I hope you like it :)

As ever, I own nothing other than the 2 characters I made up

As Glinda stood clutching the green elixir bottle and a rainbow jar, she suddenly knew what she wanted to do. She took a deep breath, opened the jar and wished with all her might.

"I wish I could have Elphie's child."

5 years later:

"Nikolai, sit still," Glinda chuckled at her squirmy son. She was trying to give him a bath, and he hated it.

"Sorry, Mama," he said, settling down. "Tell me a story, please."

"Ok," Glinda said, thinking. "How about a story about a witch?"

Nikolai nodded enthusiastically, so she began. "Some years ago now, a girl was born in Munchkin land who had green skin. Her parents named her Elphaba. When Elphaba was only a few years old, her mother died. She was terribly mistreated by her father and was thoroughly miserable. She thought things would get better once she went to school, but the other children were nasty to her."

She paused for a moment then to remove her son from the bath and wrap him in a towel. "Why were they nasty to Elphaba, Mama?" he asked.

"They couldn't see past the colour of her skin, darling," she continued. "But this wasn't the case for all of her life. When she went to university she made friends, one of whom was particularly special. At last, she was happy and able to learn. She mastered a great many spells and became very powerful. But the Wizard was not happy about that."

"What did he do?" Nikolai gasped.

"He had her killed, baby," Glinda responded, her eyes filling with tears.

Nikolai noticed she was crying and gave her a hug. "Did you know Elphaba?"

"Yes," she whispered, "she was my best friend and I loved her. There's something you should know, sweetheart. Elphie was your Mommy."

"Really?" he asked in disbelief.

"Yes, my darling. I used rainbow magic," she told him, feeling as though a great weight was being lifted from her shoulders. "You have her beautiful eyes. She would have adored you."

Nikolai looked completely stunned. "Wow. I have a Mommy."

Suddenly, a thought struck Glinda. "There's something I need to show you, Nik." She hoisted him up into her arms and carried him to the room where she kept the Grimmerie. He would be the only person other than her to go in there. She hadn't even shown it to Kasran, her husband.

She removed the Grimmerie from the plinth on which it was placed and showed it to her son. "Wow," he breathed, stroking the cover. "This looks really old."

"It is," she replied. "The last person it belonged to was your Mommy. She gave it to me before she died."

She placed the book on the floor and allowed Nikolai to flip through the pages. He settled on a page he liked and, to the great astonishment of both of them, read the spell. This caused a green flame to appear before him briefly. "Mama," he gasped, his face pale.

"Are you ok, my precious?" she asked anxiously, pulling him into a tight embrace.

"I'm fine," he breathed. "But I heard a voice in my head when I said the spell. It was Mommy."

Glinda smiled as she lay in bed with Kasran that night. She had one more rainbow jar stashed away and, thanks to her wonderful Nikolai, she knew just what to do with it.
