SCENE 1: EXT. SCURIDAD ISLAND, OFF THE COAST OF THE CONTINENT

OF VALENTIA

A primitive village in the tropics at twilight. We focus on a

small circle of stones, surrounding a pile of smoking

firewood. Carocol, a 14 year old boy dressed with the skins

of tropical animals, looks on forlornly. The sound of

footsteps quietly approaching does nothing to perturb

Carocol, not even blinking as his father Grimora steps beside

him. Grimora is fierce, a war veteran; multiple scars line

his face. His eyes glow like 24 karat gold in the darkening

scene, while his long, wily, blue hair tugs in the wind like

a cape behind him.

GRIMORA

She is with Duma now, proud one.

Carocol is silent.

GRIMORA (CONT'D)

You've inherited her stoicism, I

see.

CAROCOL

She broke her promise.

GRIMORA

(ruefully) That's quite

unfair to say, wouldn't

you agree?

CAROCOL

We'd sit here every night. She'd

sing songs about how she'd always

watch over me...

GRIMORA

She still does. Her eyes are

Duma's, now. They can both watch

over you, together.

Carocol finds a log, pulls it into place by the fireplace,

and sits down. Grimora sits next to him, placing a hand on

his son's shoulder.

CAROCOL

Are Duma's eyes pink like hers?

GRIMORA

Duma's eyes can be any color you

wish, child.

CAROCOL

Duma will do what I want?

GRIMORA

Meaning?

CAROCOL

I want my mother here, with me.

Now.

GRIMORA

Death cannot be reversed, child. We

may not always understand Duma's

intentions, but we, as his

children, have a duty to go along

with them.

Tears form in Carocol's eyes.

CAROCOL

I'm beginning to wonder.

GRIMORA

Hm.

Silence.

GRIMORA (CONT'D)

If you'd like, I can teach you how

to commune with him. Maybe then he

can help you understand.

CAROCOL

...I'd like that.

GRIMORA

I thought so.

Grimora gets to his feet, extending an outstretched hand.

GRIMORA (CONT'D)

We can start tonight.

CAROCOL

Father, you know I'm in no mood

to...

GRIMORA

There will be time to grieve later.

Carocol takes his father's hand, standing up. The two wander

off into the woods outside the village.

GRIMORA (CONT'D)

To speak with Duma, your head must

clear. Only then will he come to

you.

CAROCOL

How?

A whooshing sound, that crescendoes until...

CUT TO SCENE 2

SCENE 2 EXT. ENTRANCE TO A CAVE IN THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN.

Shot of the looming entrance to the cave. Close up of

Carocol, now 21 years old. His face is painted with blood,

and he wears the feathers of many tropical birds, medallions

for his accomplishments. His face is gaunt, pale, and yet

there is great power in his crimson eyes, reminiscent of

Duma. He carries a large scythe on his back, the traditional

melee and casting weapon of the Children of Duma.

GRIMORA

(voiceover) You wish to

know how to kill a God?

CAROCOL

(voiceover, as a 14 year

old) Yes. Should the need

come.

GRIMORA

(voiceover) There is no

need.

CUT TO SCENE 3

SCENE 3: SEVEN YEARS PRIOR, IN GRIMORA'S CHAMBER

Carocol sits across from Grimora, in a lavish chamber in

their home.

CAROCOL

How do you know?

GRIMORA

We are the descendents of Duma.

Created in his image, to serve his

interests in the first War of the

Gods. Our natural enemy...

An Etruscan-style image of Mila.

Even in her human form, she has the intimidating presence of

a dragon.

GRIMORA (CONT'D)

(continued) Mila. Mila

used human soldiers in

the war. A foolish woman,

who saw the value in

human beings as her

servants, rather than

creating elite soldiers

in her image.

Back to Grimora's chamber.

CAROCOL

What's a...human?

CUT TO SCENE 4

SCENE 4: INSIDE THE CAVE

Various shots of Carocol descending deeper into the caves.

GRIMORA

(voiceover) It's been

years since the war, and

therefore years since

I've seen one. They're a

glorified breed of

insect. One of Mila's

many careless

machinations. A mindless

bottom feeder, that

scarfs up the remains of

what the Gods give to the

Earth like buzzards.

CAROCOL

(voiceover) Then what

purpose do they serve?

GRIMORA

(voiceover) Tools.

CAROCOL

(voiceover) But you just

said they were mindless

bottom feeders!

GRIMORA

(voiceover) As are the

sheep. But sheep can be

led, just as humans

can...

Carocol reaches the bottom of a particularly steep set of

rocks, gaping slightly as he stares up at the gaping entrance

of a large tunnel. Carocol closes his eyes.

CUT TO SCENE 5

SCENE 5: VILLAGE ENTRANCE

Grimora stares at his son with a mixture of melancholy and

expetence. The other villagers have gathered around.

GRIMORA

Carocol, today is when you face

your destiny.

As Grimora talks, action scenes of Carocol fighting various

creatures and warriors from other tribes play.

GRIMORA (CONT'D)

For 21 years, you've been the pride

of our village. You have absorbed

every lesson I've taught you. Every

feather on your cloth, every stripe

of paint on your face will remind

you of your tribulations until the

end of your life. Now, you face the

greatest journey one of the sons of

Duma could ever take.

Ancient images of the Serpent of Duma, Duma's long lost pet

that resides deep underground on the island of Scuridad.

GRIMORA (CONT'D)

Today, you enter the Caves of

Khalass, where the Serpent lies, to

confront your final challenge. You

will retrieve a scale from the

Serpent, your final medallion.

Back to the village entrance scene.

GRIMORA (CONT'D)

As your village chief, and your

proud father, I commend you for

reaching this day. I expect your

safe return, Carocol. Now go!

Applause and chanting from the onlookers. Carocol gives them

an approving smile, then turns and hugs his father. Close up

as they shake hands, before Carocol turns around and entering

the dark woods behind the village.

CUT TO SCENE 6

SCENE 6: BACK IN THE PRESENT

Carocol determindly enters the tunnel. The sounds of dripping

water echo in the darkness.

CAROCOL

(voiceover) I'll make you

proud, in my mother's

name, father.

Eventually, Carocol reaches the end of the tunnel, which

opens up into a massive chamber. Carocol takes in his

surroundings, as the camera cuts to a giant rock slowly

becoming unhinged from the wall. Carocol spins around to see

the entrance to the tunnel plugged up by the rockfall.

CAROCOL (CONT'D)

Damn...

An eerie sound begins to echo throughout the chamber, similar

to the sound an egg makes when scrambled. Suddenly, the wall

directly opposite Carocol collapses violently. A massive

shadow emerges, in the shape of a snake. Carocol withdraws

the scythe on his back with his right arm, but is shocked

when the scythe drags him down to the ground. He cannot lift

it, or let go.

CAROCOL (CONT'D)

What!?

He grunts and groans, trying to lift his weapon, but he

can't. The shadow roars again, and swiftly lunges at Carocol.

Carocol anticipates death, but suddenly, an explosion rips

apart another part of the cave wall. Harsh pink light streams

through, and the shadow wails in agony. It swiftly retreats

back into the caves, leaving a completely shocked Carocol all

alone.

CAROCOL (CONT'D)

Damn it, c'mon!

Carocol still cannot lift the scythe. He begins biting and

clawing at his right hand. Finally, it is freed, albeit

bloodied. Clutching his bleeding hand, Carocol stares into

the new tunnel that had been created, a bright pink light

still emanating at the end. Cut to a few minutes later, as

Caracol emerges into a smaller chamber with a pit in the

center, where the bright pink light is originating from.

Seeing no other way out of the cave, Carocol plunges in. As

he falls, the light grows brighter and brighter, until

Carocol has to squint to see. As he nears the bottom of the

large pit, he deftly catches himself on a stalactite,

swinging and landing on his feet in a massive chamber of

opulent pink gems. He takes in his surroundings, until his

eyes settle on a throne at the back of the chamber. Carocol

slowly makes his way over, until a commanding voice causes

him to jump behind a large pillar.

GILGAMESH

Foolish giant. All of Earth's

treasures belong to me.

Carocol peeks out at Gilgamesh, dressed in his full golden

armor. He is studying a bright blue gemstone in his hands.

GILGAMESH (CONT'D)

Your queen was foolish to think

anyone would stand in the way of my

destiny.

Suddenly, he perks up, like a cat.

GILGAMESH (CONT'D)

But perhaps, we're not alone...

A sword suddenly plunges itself into Carocol's abdomen. Blood

gushes out uncontrollably, and Carocol crashes to the floor

from the force of the blow. Carocol continues to cough up

blood, as Gilgamesh makes his way over to him slowly.

GILGAMESH (CONT'D)

(calmly) You dare hide

yourself in my presence,

you pathetic little dog?

I should punish you for

your grave

transgresssion.

Upon seeing Carocol up close, however, Gilgamesh's annoyance

turns to curiosity.

GILGAMESH (CONT'D)

Oh...you're a rather intriguing

little mutt. Consider yourself

blessed, mongrel. I will let you

live long enough to hear about my

greatest desire.

CAROCOL

Con...continent?

Gilgamesh smirks.

GILGAMESH

Life on this planet has committed

far too many transgressions against

me. Do you see this stone in my

hands?

Carocol moans in agony, but manages to look up at the rock in

Gilgamesh's hand.

GILGAMESH (CONT'D)

This stone will set the course for

what will be the cleansing of all

who stand against my authority, and

claim all of my treasures as their

own.

Carocol attempts to stand, hatred in his eyes. He sees

Gilgamesh as a human.

CAROCOL

You...you human scum!

Gilgamesh summons two more swords; one pierces Carocol's

abdomen again, while the second strikes his shoulder, taking

him down again.

GILGAMESH

(angrily) You worthless

urchin! How dare you

compare me to the

very locusts I long to

exterminate! For that,

your death will be

prolonged!

Carocol cries out in agony, blood leaking from his body like

a sieve. Gilgamesh stomps on Carocol's head, silencing him.

GILGAMESH (CONT'D)

You have the mark of a strong

warrior, but the heart of a brittle

baby. We may share the quality of

not being human, but in the eyes of

a demi-god such as myself, you are

less than a human. I wish to

see you bleed dry until you become

the dried husk of a crying boy...but the course of fate is

against us.

Gilgamesh grinds his foot on Carocol's head, before turning

to leave.

GILGAMESH (CONT'D)

May we meet in the afterlife, so I

may beat your spirit down in

similar fashion...you mongrel.

Gilgamesh fades in a swarm of golden dust. Carocol reaches

out desperately, looking up one last time. P.O.V of Carocol,

his vision blurry and darkening quick, as a pink gem suddenly

levitates in the air, taking the form of a large woman.

Carocol's eyes finally shut.
