Hi, everybody! Welcome to my Wings of Fire fanfic! I'm a huge fan of this series and I had to write for it. However, chapter uploading will be fairly slow because I have not completed the series yet, but I'm getting there! I do have the prologue finished and this is it. So I hope you enjoy it and the rest of the story!
*Two Years Ago*
The rainforest seemed happiest when the world was at peace. The sun seemed warmer, the sky seemed bluer, and the flowers smelled just a little bit sweeter. When the rainforest was happy, so were it's dragons. That was exactly what the young RainWing dragonet thought as she swerved through the trees and swung with her tail from the vines with him, her best friend.
"Slow down, will you?" he huffed, straining himself to catch up to her.
"I don't need to slow down," she giggled back. "You need to stop eating so many coconuts."
"Hey, that's cold." he said, orange drops rippling across his wings.
"Sorry," she said with the expression written on her face. But it didn't quite reach her eyes. He caught sight of the mischievous purple showing on her tail. Her expression changed into a smirk as she levitated her best friend and flung him to the next tree over. Her pet monkey howled with laughter, as did the RainWing.
"Hey!" he said. "You said you wouldn't use your powers on me anymore!" He changed his scales to an angry red as she held a happy yellow.
"And you said you'd hold back on the coconuts," she said as she flew over to join him. "And yet here we are."
"You've been spending too much time around your parents." he said, looking down at his talons. "You're becoming just like them." Blue gray had its turn to spread over his body.
"Would that really be such a bad thing?"
"If it means that I lose my best friend, then yes." She twined her tail around his and nuzzled her head underneath his chin.
"We've been over this," she smiled. "That's not gonna happen." He nuzzled her back.
"Promise?"
"Have I ever broken a promise to you before?" she asked.
"No," he smiled. "I can't say that you have." He felt a warm pink spread across his scales, taking the sad blue gray away. He looked down at her, and she shared his carnation hue.
"Well, aren't you two cozy." said a voice from above. The pair looked up as a emerald green RainWing with a red frill and wings circled above them. The two friends broke apart from each other as she landed on the branch in front of them.
"I hate to interrupt, but I'm afraid my daughter has matters to attend to. She has venom targeting lessons in 15 minutes."
"Yes mother," the younger female said obediently.
"Now I understand the need for a little fun," the older RainWing continued. "But now is not that time, darling."
"Yes, I understand. And I'm coming."
"Good," said her mother. "I'll see you at the training field." But before the young RainWing took off into the trees, she turned to her best friend once more.
"I'm sorry, I completely forgot about venom training."
"It's cool," he responded. "Really, it is."
"I'll see you later, I promise." she said. "We'll continue this, trust me." Her scales shifted to her natural purple color with a yellow underbelly, red frill, and green splotches. Then she sprung off of the branch and down back into the forest, with her monkey holding on for dear life.
So he stayed there. He waited until dark. But his friend never returned. "Well, she never said it'd be today." he said out loud to himself. He decided to sleep in the tree that night, with peaceful dreams.
But his best friend never returned. Even when he descended back into the village, there was no sign of her. Of course, he was a smart enough dragonet to know that someone in her case had to busy a lot. So as her best friend, he decided to let her come to him on her own time.
But he waited. And waited. And waited. Soon 4 months had passed, and she had not returned. Not even a glance when he had passed her in the village. Everywhere she went, she was flanked by other dragons, especially that NightWing. Dragons that were obviously better company than him. Finally he couldn't stand it anymore. Everything in the rainforest reminded him of her. He didn't know where he would go or what he would do, but he didn't really care. He sat on a branch overlooking the village, watching as she happily stood on the balcony of her tree house with her parents, looking out on the village below.
"May you be happy, Princess Astonishing," he said. "May you be happy in the life you've chosen." Casting one more look at the village, Mamba spread his now red wings and leapt into the sky.
So there it is! I hope you enjoyed it and if you did, please leave a review so I can know how soon I can continue this. Thanks for reading!
