An Honest Mistake
--By Frost

"You -can't- be serious...." The nearly pleading whine escaped from her lips before she even thought to control it. She rolled her eyes suddenly and pushed bright pink sunglasses further up on her head. It figured, it really did.

"Oh, Ah sure -can- be serious, sugah! An' Ah am!" She hid the need to defend herself by chirping out the statement; seemingly in good humor. Emerald green eyes flashed challengingly, and she stuck her jaw out a little to show she meant business.

There was a long pause, but then a third person spoke, and his tone was full of angsty self loathing and hate. "S'all my fault.... Don' blame Rogue..." He took a ragged breath and shifted the position of balance on his feet before going on with his self-degrading speech.

"Aww, shut up, swamprat!" The fiery Southern belle turned to the other girl and gave her a confidential look, mouthing 'He's been like this for hours!' She couldn't help but look annoyed as Gambit continued to mumble about how it was his fault. She opened her mouth to berate the man for being so foolish, but Jubilee cut her her off.

"Look you weirdo Cajun, you'd blame -world hunger- on yourself if there was a way to make it look possible! So jus' be quiet for a while so we can think this problem over." She wasn't a good leader, and no one would ever say she was but with the way Rogue and Remy argued -someone- had to take charge. Absently, she brushed a few errant strands of hair from her forehead.

Rogue nodded her agreement, a little smile fixed on her crimson lips, and hope shining in her eyes. "Ah think yer righ-"

"An' Remy... he really wouldn' blame y'if y'hated him now.... Seein' as I did somet'ing so horrible." The Cajun droned on, as if he'd practiced this speech for years, and didn't even bother to notice that he interrupted Rogue.

And finally she could stand it no longer, a well placed slap met Remy's forehead, making him snap out of his trance-like state. "It wasn't yoah fault, sugah! We all shoulda been payin' attention. Besides, it's not like it wasn't an honest mistake...." Oh, how foolish she sounded, trying to reason this out! Angrily she yanked at one of her own reddish hairs, trying her hardest to figure out their problem.

"Well, it was Gambit's fault, chere!" Once again, Remy tried taking up the blame. "Remy was de one who was picked t' remember." One would think he liked blaming himself for things, the way he kept going on about it.

"Oh jeez louise!" Bubble gum popped, bringing the attention back to Jubilee. The young girl had her arms crossed and she was trying her hardest to look menacingly persuasive. "Jus' call the others and ask 'em for help!"

"Oh, dat'd be too easy!" It was obvious that the Cajun had been watching the X-Files again. The phrase "easily influenced" came to mind.

Rogue looked ready to put her two cents in, but Jubilee shook her head and pulled out her comm link. "Hey, Cyke? Yeah, we could use a li'l help here. These two southerners don't remember where they left the freaking Blackbird cloaked! Again!"
