A/N: This was the first scene I wrote for Supernova
A/N: Originally an epilogue for a story I was considering- Supernova. Its plot was far too idiotic, but I did like this poetic ending. Title speaks for it all. In the story, Bella's power was… kind of like a phoenix. I said it was idiotic, didn't I?
I was cleaning out files when I came upon this… I reworded it into a three-hundred word drabble. Hope you enjoy your minute of entertainment.
Born Again, Unto the Ashes
Born again, unto the ashes,
What once was consumed by flame.
Half a past revealed in flashes,
Someday she will regain her name.
A boy stands in the middle of the wreckage, ashes all around him.
He stands quietly, broodingly almost, all his senses on high alert.
The boy takes no notice of the sun, which is threatening to peek over into the shadowed square where he stands.
The boy takes no notice of the crowd, who is picking through the wreckage for any survivors. The boy knows there are none.
The boy takes no notice of the police, attempting to usher him away from the site of the tragedy.
All he seems to register is the light breeze, blowing across the scene and ruffling his hair. It carries to him the light scent of freesia.
He steps into the rubble, following the scent, carrying him closer and closer to the heart of the accident. He brushes away the dark purple smoke that seems to cling to him.
Searching, but for what?
The answer is obvious as a light cry resounds in the air, and he moves fast, almost too fast for human eyes, and snatches up the small bundle.
The baby does not cry; it gives a yawn and stares up at the boy with big eyes, familiar ones, peeking out of the swaddling cloth. Big brown doe eyes, warm in their depth.
The boy pats the baby's head and lifts her high in the air. She squeals a little in happiness. Of course, it is a girl. His nose touches hers and he whispers, "Hello, Bella."
He cradles the infant close to his body, hugging it to his chest. Her heart beats in tandem with his silent one.
He turns and walks away, holding her in his arms.
