A Worst Fear Realized

Seasons come and seasons go

As all of us do surely know,

But on this dreadful winter day

Cries filled the air as wedding bells play.

On this day down Mushroom Drive

An inauspicious wedding was taking place.

The only sounds were those of cries

From the bride's beautiful, swollen face.

Her steward, Toadsworth, with his comforting touch

Said while holding back thoughts that were too much,

"I known that today will be unbearable,

But if you don't, the result will be terrible."

"I know," the princess replied through her sobs,

"I must do it for the sake of my kingdom."

If she refused, Dark Land's citizens would come in mobs

And invade the land with methods most fearsome.

With a heavy heart and fresh tears,

Her thoughts turned to Mario and new fears.

His bright, shining face and sky blue eyes were no more;

The princess' love, slaughtered by a fight from before.

And now, now she had to marry this beast!

This monster with eight bratty children was her groom

Whom she did not care for in the least.

A new fear arose; Oh no! Her honeymoon!

She wanted to run and hide from the world,

To be with Mario while being twirled,

But this was not the place or the time.

She had to face up to this henious crime.

Drying her tears and picking herself up,

An entourage of toads helped her get ready,

While Bowser sat drinking from a cup

Ordering his henchmen with a hand unsteady.

The music started playing again, soft and benevolent,

And the groom, of course, looked extremely menevolent:

Well, to Peach, he did as he walked down the aisle

As she peered at him while he bore a smile.

Mario's gift, a spherical sapphire ring,

She hid in the bouquet to keep close to her heart.

It was time now; she began walking towards the king

All the while desperately wishing to restart.

The lovely wedding gown, so white and pure,

The emotions she felt that were made obscure,

They all fell apart, by her heel nonetheless;

The trip made a hole in her beautiful dress.

On the floor, tears flowing once more,

The bouquet laying out behind her

Reveals the ring that she adores

And also the man that she prefers.

The flowers, on the other hand, were dying,

At least through Peach's eyes as she sat crying.

This newfound symbol of her future she beheld

With the weight of what she has already impelled.

But, because Bowser is not fair

His eyes won't let him see,

The flowers that lay dying there

Of what their love would be.

To him they looked as bright as the sun

Promising hope and love and fun,

But as Peach glared at his face once more

She fainted and fell down to the floor.

Heart pounding, skin sweating, Peach woke with a start.

She looked around and found it was a dream.

Mario lay next to her, hands on his heart,

And on the end table stood a tub of ice cream.

Events from last night came to her mind,

And she reminisced in them, one at a time.

She went to Mario's arms and stayed there awhile.

Holding each other close, they cuddled and shared a smile.
