Beside Me
I padded lightly through the forest, a trail of my paw prints followed in the snow behind me. I started doing this a few weeks ago, leaving the house in the middle of the night to walk around the forest that is. It was calming; it gave me time to think without Seth, Quil, Embry and Jake roaming through my thoughts.
Jake…it always came back to him. One of the main reasons I was out here was because of him. Yes, really. I'm that girl who gets her heart crushed by her high school sweetheart and then ends up falling for her alpha who has imprinted on a half vampire…well okay the girl. Great, right? Yeah no. So you see now why I need this?
I continued on to a particularly large tree I liked to sit under. I folded my legs and just sat, watching the forest sleep, letting my mind relax, forcing my thoughts to rest. I don't know how long I sat like that but suddenly I heard a voice in my head.
Leah?
Yeah? I whispered back. A large russet wolf came into my line of vision and made its way over to me. Jake stood on all fours, I looked up at his large form towering over me and cocked my head to the side.
What are you doing out here?
I could ask you the same thing, was all I said. He gave me one of those Leah-don't-start-with-me looks, funny how I knew it even when he was in his wolf form.

About what?
Nothing. Everything, Don't know, I answered.
Jake looked at me for a second and then settled down beside me. His side was pressing into mine, and I was enveloped in the crevice in between, surrounded by the warmth of his fur. I was surprised, then delighted, then upset because I shouldn't be feeling this way.
You didn't answer me. I reminded him, placing my head on my paws.
Just wanted to be by you. And with that he placed his furry head on top of mine, closed his eyes, and sighed. In that moment I knew. Whatever I had been feeling, whatever doubts I had, I knew everything would be okay if I just had Jake by my side.
