Friends Forever

iBayfully

(A/N: So, this is kind of like The Spiritual Stone of Water, where I just think up something to write and bam, it's on. Enjoy, this is a short Link/Saria oneshot. And don't worry, I'm not done with When Heroes Rise! ^-^)

Disclaimer: I do not own LoZ or any of it's characters. :P

Link ran out of the forest, away from Mido as fast as he could. He was no longer wanted; and besides, he had a task that he had to complete.

As he darted across the wooden rope bridge separating Kokiri Forest from the rest of the world, however, he heard the soft words, "Oh, you're leaving…"

Link halted in mid-sprint and glanced back behind him to see his life long friend, Saria, and her fairy watching him as he was about to leave.

Link mentally slapped himself. She was his best friend; why did he forget to say goodbye?

Slowly, he trudged back to where Saria was standing.

She sighed, and said, "I knew that you would leave the forest…someday, Link…because you are different from me and my other friends…

"But that's okay, because we'll be friends forever…won't we?" she asked her friend, closing her eyes and smiling sadly. Link swallowed and nodded.

Saria opened her eyes slowly and told him, "I want you to have this ocarina…please take care of it."

She took his quivering hands gently and placed the fairy ocarina between his fingers. When Saria noticed Link's worried expression, she did her best to smile reassuringly at him.

"When you play my ocarina, I hope you will think of me and come back to the forest to visit."

Link nodded, swallowing hard. "I-I will," he got out.

"Good," she replied softly.

Link looked from the ocarina in his hands to the girl in green who he had known for so long. He didn't want to leave her; she meant everything to him!

A single tear slid down his cheek as all his childhood memories came flooding back to him. It wasn't until a few moments later when he felt Saria's index finger brush away his tear as she gently cupped his face in her hands. It made Link want to let it all out; so he did.

The green-haired girl pulled hugged him tightly as he sobbed into her green turtleneck; and Saria didn't mind. She let him do it, for she felt his pain.

Unfortunately, their sweet time eventually had to end, much to Link's reluctance.

As he slowly pulled away from a hug that seemingly lasted hours, Saria looked him in the eyes and smiled. "It's okay," she told him again. Link wiped another tear away and nodded once more, glancing at her feet. When he was about to leave, however, Saria took gently raised his chin until he met her eyes.

Without caring about any consequences, she leaned forward and softly pressed her lips onto his while clutching his hand tightly.

Link was obviously shocked for the first few seconds, but he soon fell into he moment and kissed his best friend back. "Don't forget…about me," Saria whispered, barely audible for Link to hear.

After what seemed like an eternity, she broke away and nodded her head. "I already trust you'll be back," she told him.

Link nodded, stepped back, wiped one more tear from his eyes, and ran off into Hyrule. He knew that he would be back, too.

The End

(A/N: I know, it's short. Tell me what you think! It helps me tremendously. ^^)
