Love will never fade

The night was dark, darker than any he had seen before, and it matched his mood. He had never felt such sadness. He thought of what would transpire on the morrow, and he turned over to face his wife. She was still awake, staring at him with clear blue eyes that were so bright they seemed to shine out at him from the dimness of the room.

"Will you truly go?" He asked, drawing her up against his chest.

"Yes." She whispered silently. "The sorrow here is to great for me to bear." She felt his arms tighten around her and by the tightening in his chest, she could tell he was fighting back tears. "El," she whispered quietly to him, turning to see his face. His eyes held such infinite sadness that she felt guilty for having to leave him, but she could not longer stay. His jaw began to quiver, and he clutched her to him, feverishly, swearing that he could not let her go. He buried his face in the warm, comforting curve of her neck, showering her with kisses.

"Celebrian." He sobbed. "You can't leave me."

"No, No, meleth*. It is not for good, you will see me again, and we will be together. No parting is forever." She stroked his sorrowed face with a soft hand and he grasped it in his own, holding her small hand against his cheek. No matter how he tried he could not stay his weeping. She held him in her arms and cradled his head, stroking his hair in a comforting manner like a mother soothing a tearful child. "Shhhhhh." She whispered. Then quietly she began to sing.

When she stopped, she realized he had fallen asleep, She looked down at his troubled face, tearstains still on his cheeks. She kissed his lips softly, then curled against his chest, she fell into restless slumber.

*Love will never fade dear one,

Sleep now in my arms

Love will never fade dear one

Rest your weary head

Love will never fade dear one,

Though miles many part us

Love will never fade dear one,

For love is a lasting bond

Love will never fade dear one

Don't let your fear take hold

Love will never fade dear one,

Courage will keep your strong

Love will never fade my love

The ages long have passed

Love will never fade my love

Our pledge for eternity will last.

Love will never fade dear one

Love will never fade

Love will never fade my love

Our Love will never fade

*meleth-love
