Short little song- fic set to Miranda Lambert's "Over You". I've been wanting to write one for a while, and I thought this was the perfect time in Harry Potter for this song. Reviews are appreciated! I don't own anything familiar, just fyi
"Over You"
Weather man said it's gonna snow
By now I should be used to the cold
Every time Ron wore the horcrux, she noticed an immediate change in his mood. He snapped at Harry, and at her, something he'd been making a conscious effort not to do. Nonetheless, she was shocked when he'd chosen to leave them- to leave her.
Mid-February shouldn't be so scary
It was only December
I still remember the presents, the tree, you and me
She couldn't believe that he was gone- no! It was just a dream- he's laying on his bunk across the tent, or he's out keeping watch while Harry sleeps. But when she rolls over, neither boy is in his bunk, and she knows. Ron is gone. Getting up, she slowly drags herself over to his bed and lays down, encasing herself in his blankets and in his welcoming scent. We were so happy just a couple months ago…
But you went away
How dare you?
I miss you
They say I'll be OK
But I'm not going to ever get over you
She had confided in him! She had trusted him! She had maybe even loved him! She had thought that he would always be there for her- he'd promised her that much. "He's finally showing his true colors" she thinks bitterly, trying to bury the lump of sadness welling, yet again, in her throat with a wave of anger. She and Harry move on from the place where the awful things were said, where the unforgivable happened. But she goes through life in a haze, trying not to let the anger and sadness consume her. It does anyway.
Living alone here in this place
I think of you, and I'm not afraid
Your favorite records make me feel better
Cause you sing along
With every song
I know you didn't mean to give them to me
She couldn't help it- she missed him. The way he sang along with the wizarding wireless when it was his turn to wash the dishes. The way he snored softly in his sleep. The way his hair was always in his eyes. The way his eyes lit up whenever he saw her. "No- don't think about it" she says, shutting her eyes and the memories out with them. "He left you, remember? It's unforgivable." And yet, she hopes with every fiber of her being that he will come back to them, come back to her.
But you went away
How dare you?
I miss you
They say I'll be OK
But I'm not going to ever get over you
Then one day, he reappears. It takes all she has not to rush into his arms and kissing him. In the seconds it takes to remember her self restraint, his betrayal comes rushing back to her, and instead, she rushes at him, punching him, hitting him- anything to cause him the pain that he had caused her. And then she turns on him and walks away.
It really sinks in, you know, when I see it in stone
Sitting outside of the small tent she had began to reluctantly call home, she let her thoughts and her tears run wild. A part of her wanted to believe him, that he had wanted to come back to her, that he'd just needed some time to cool down and that circumstances had prevented him from returning. But another part of her didn't want to forgive what he'd done, didn't want to forget the pain that he'd caused her. She'd lost the trust she had in him, and she didn't know if he could get it back.
"Hermione?" he asks, coming to sit down beside her. She immediately stiffens and hastily wipes her tears, ashamed at him seeing the weakness he was causing in her.
"What?" she whispers harshly.
"I'm sorry."
Cause you went away,
How dare you?
I miss you
They say I'll be OK
But I'm not going to ever get over you
And suddenly, it's enough. All is forgiven.
