Tamera lay awake, her eyes fixed on the shadowy ceiling. She couldn't sleep. A single worry was gnawing at the back of her mind, leaving her in a state of panic that held her back from snoring.
A colossal dragon poked it's metallic, scaly head through Tamera's window, breathing smoke and sparks at her. She lifted her head from the pillow.
'Theodore! You know it's rude to try and kill people!' She warned, before the dragon drooped, and pattered away sheepishly.
Tamera rolled over again, and again. Then she sighed. It was no use. She stood up and peered through her window at the full moon casting an eerie glow over her face, and tiptoed across a fallen branch onto the riverbank. She could see her face reflected in the swirling, blue water. Big blue eyes the colour of sapphires stared back at her, blinking their long black lashes. Dark brown hair tumbled past her skinny shoulders and on her head lay a ring of water lilies. Her dress was made of gossamer leaves and fell to her knees in a lacy curtain. Her feet were bare. She was called Tamera but was best known as Pige Haven; Girl of the Meadow.
The Meadow, her home:
Riverbanks and valleys covered in flowers, fruit trees and Fairy rings sat round a vast crystal lake, inhabited by the most enchanting and unique beats imaginable. Elves rode about on Dragons, laughing and singing, Pixies stole fruit from trees and Fairies danced all over the moors. It was a very happy place.
Tamera knelt on the grass, braiding her hair with moss. Renee her pet butterfly was poised on her wrist beating her shimmering wings enthusiastically and blowing a cool breeze onto Tamera's face.
'Oh Renee', she wept. 'Whatever shall I do? This place is my home, I've lived here forever. But now I'm being forced to leave it!'
