Disclaimer: Hunter X Hunter isn't mine, or i'd be tempted to make this A Thing. The original concept for this story is by Aceidia, but the JoJo's reference was me.
Kurapika was getting used to the dinner detail on the Black Whale. Each prince and their personal retinue ate separately from the others, but to keep things interesting a rotation of other VIPs would share the banquet hall and provide company. Kurapika just had to stand around and keep an alert eye on the other passengers. He'd eat later in the suite.
As he cast an eye over the room, Kurapika had a chilling feeling like he'd just seen something familiar. He looked again.
There was Hisoka, in a white captain's uniform. His hair had been dyed aqua green for the occasion. Kurapika's jaw tightened.
"Excuse me for a moment," he said to the Queen, and made eye contact with Bill. There weren't any obvious threats besides Hisoka, so it should be all right to leave for just a moment, but that was no excuse for negligence.
"Something come up?" Bill asked.
"Something like that," Kurapika replied. "I won't be long." Hopefully . . . he thought. But surely even Hisoka wouldn't start a fight in this setting. He made his way across the room to where Hisoka was standing with a glass of champagne.
"Kurapika!" Hisoka oozed upon seeing him. "What a surprise."
Kurapika grabbed his arm and pulled him around, trying for some semblance of privacy. "What are you doing here?" he hissed.
"I'm the captain," Hisoka explained.
"No, really," Kurapika said.
"Really," Hisoka said, with an affectation of being stung. "I'm Captain Dragon."
Kurapika's jaw tightened. "The Black Whale is meant to be under the command of a Captain Tenille. Besides, we know each other. Changing your hair color isn't going to make me not recognize you."
"Well, i thought it was fun," Hisoka said, as if they weren't talking about anything more important than how to spend an afternoon. "So what's up?"
"Don't play around," Kurapika said. "I need to know what you're up to."
Why?" Hisoka asked. "Does my being here bother you?"
"I'm not going to fight you," Kurapika told him. "Just tell me what you're doing here." Gods, a conversation with this man was like pulling teeth.
"You sure?" Hisoka asked. "I think it could be fun to fight you."
Kurapika didn't rise to his bait. "You didn't come here looking for me, so you've got some other purpose. What is it?"
"If you're sure," Hisoka sighed. "I have a date later onboard. I thought this would be good to kill time until then."
Kurapika rolled his eyes. "A date."
"Yes." Hisoka's eyes lit up just thinking about it. "Would you like to know who it's with?"
"No," Kurapika replied flatly. "I have no interest in whatever you're up to now. I just want to do what i'm here to do. I don't need any more complications."
"Well, if you're sure." Hisoka pouted. "What if i told you–"
"No," Kurapika said firmly. "I'm going back to work now. Goodbye." He turned his back on the clown as a staff member approached to consult with "Captain Dragon." Whatever it was, he was sure he wanted no part of it.
A/N: I was talking with Aceidia about where Hisoka might be during this ship voyage, and when this suggestion came up it made me laugh, and Aceidia told me i had to make it into a story. So i did.
