Patrick smiled as he looked at the picture of his daughter. Second daughter actually. Her dark brown curls were flying behind her as she ran in the sun. He heard a pair of feet shuffle behind him and quickly tucked the picture away.
"Dahlia loves playing outside" Teresa said softly
"That she does" Patrick replied
"Come home with me"
"I can't. I'll be there in the morning and we can spend our usual day as a family"
"Patrick…"
"Teresa, stop"
Lisbon sighed before walking away. She understood his hesitancy to get too close. Didn't want to risk losing them too. But sometimes she wished he would let her in. Teresa got home and smiled at the nanny before letting her go and slowly walking down the hall to her daughters room. The four year old looked up from her book and sighed.
"What's up buttercup?" Teresa asked softly
"I want daddy" Dahlia replied
"Sugar you get to spend the whole day with daddy and me tomorrow"
"Not enough"
"Lia, sugar. Sometimes things just are they way they are"
Teresa watched as her daughter turned away and started to cry. She rubbed the little girls back before getting up and walking to her bedroom. She picked up her phone and dialed him.
"Teresa…" Patrick began
"She's crying again. Crying because she just wants a bedtime story from her daddy" Teresa said "She's only four Patrick. Please I can't do this anymore by myself"
Teresa hung up and changed for bed. She was making some tea when she heard the key in the door before the door closed again and the lock click. She turned around and smiled at Patrick in his normal suit. He took off his jacket and hung it over a chair before softly kissing her forehead and walking down the hall. When he came out of his daughters room he walked to the door and smiled at Teresa asleep on the couch. He picked her up and carried her to the bedroom.
"Goodnight" Patrick said
"Stay" Teresa replied as she looked up at him
"Why?"
"I need you"
Patrick smiled as he leaned down and kissed Teresa before taking off his suit. He laid down in bed next to her and smiled as Teresa snuggled close to him. He woke up the next morning and smiled at Teresa still soundly asleep in his arms. He kissed the back of her neck softly before slipping out of bed and into kitchen to start a pot of coffee. He smiled as he felt two slide around his waist.
"Morning" Patrick said as he turned around and wrapped is arms around Teresa
"Thank you for staying last night" Teresa replied
"I was happy to"
"I'm sorry I implied you don't care. That was a low blow"
"Yea, one I needed. Your right I need to be here more for Dahlia and for you"
"What do you say we have more family dinners and spend a little more time together"
"I would like that"
Teresa smiled softly as Patrick gently lifted her onto the counter and stepped between her legs. He kissed her softly and smiled as she pulled him closer and wrapped her legs around his waist.
