Alright people, if anyone is keeping their whisper scoped on this story then today I give you one exotic drop announcement, and no I'm not abandoning this story, but considering the last time I updated this story was during TTK? Maybe Rise, so I'm going to copy the fallen and salvage this Fanfiction. Today (06-09-18 (dd-mm-yy)) starts the official restart to this story, including elements and gear from Destiny 1 and Destiny 2: Forsaken, (Sorry I'm a hunter main, I love Cayde but for this story I need him dead… I hate it as much as you do, also Mara will be alive, I'll keep her connection to Sam but adjust it to fit the lore of the awoken's origins) including the new supers. So ready your guns, draw your bow, and prepare for a new beginning. – Winter
Note: I intend to keep each chapter set in only one characters perspective, for the most part Sam's. I also understand that I will be missing somethings and dialogue, two reasons, the first is that unlike Forsaken, Mara is alive, which I will explain soon, and two I honestly forgot the exact words said and don't have the game available to review the lines. Also anyone who sent in characters for the old story I will be using them again in this version.
. .
Chapter 1 – A gunslinger's gamble, a regent's call.
"I have shown you benevolence, Guardian. Should the Awoken ever need an ally I will call on you. And expect you to answer"
Those words still ring in my head, The Reef's regent, their Queen, Mara Sov. I have repaid my debt to her with the termination of the House of Wolves, and the reclamation of Skolas, yet she has called Cayde to assist her with her prison, dodging his Vanguard duties again, not like it matters to me anyway, we hunters never can sit still for too long.
"we're going to Prison" I watch as he jumps off the edge of the platform, falling into the hell hole that is his prison, hearing the shots of his infamous 'Ace of Spades' ring out as he descends. Fuck this. I step back a bit and sprint towards the edge, thankfully I prefer light armour, and drive off he edge, drawing my knives from my waist and pelt them, watching as they glide through the air and bring an end to captain waiting below. Seconds before I fall, I draw my power, the power of currents, of uncontrolled fury, of arc and draw my staff, thrusting it down towards the floor, bringing it down in over head strike, impacting the ground with pure force. Many of the dregs and thrall fall to the strike, and a captain vanishes into sparks as I sweep low to recover my movements, twirling the staff with practiced ease. However, before long I can feel the power draining, the build up of energy is too low to maintain the staff, so I take the staff and hold it like a javelin and throw it across the hall, vaporising a Knight charging towards me.
"Right between the eyes!" I roll my eyes, Cayde and his typical commentary, rarely ever can take anything seriously. I glance to my left just in time to duck a knight's blade, rolling away I draw my Crimson from its holster and plant a single burst into its skull right in the crack of its mouth and watch as it crumbles into dust, switching to my Gentleman's Vagabond, I rapidly take down an Ogre in the distance. I look over at Cayde and see the infamous gunslinger dancing around the enemy, dashing, twirling and all-around tormenting his opponents as they fall one after another to age old Gunslinger. The two of us make quick work of the hoards of prisoners as we make our way to security, as I move towards the door Ghost comments, "This says here we need to be at least a Warden to gain access."
"Then prepare for a promotion." Within seconds the door slides open, revealing Hive gunk over the walls and security terminals, quickly 'cleaning' the components of the crap ghost and I look over to Cayde as he fails to understand how security works "remember Petra said to press the red button then reset the security"
"But they're all red."
"Then press all of them!" Inwardly I laugh as I watch Cayde slide his hands over all the buttons, like a child and elevator buttons. Eventually he turns every red button green and attempts to pull the leaver only for it not to stay down, in action movie style, Cayde draws his Ace and fires three rounds into the console, surprisingly forcing security to reset. Just as we were about to check on our progress the voice of Petra rings through our ears. Asking for help clearing out a path to super max for her. So Cayde taking control of the many turrets mounted across the path mows down enemy after enemy, leaving me to sprint off down the path, picking off what's left. It isn't long however until Petra uses the channel again. "He's Gone! Cayde this isn't a riot it's a Prison break!"
"Where's the nearest airlock"
"Subsection three. Cayde you aren't planning to do anything stupid are you?" I look up from my position to see Cayde standing on top of a security check structure, said structure was falling, and Cayde, being the show off, was basically riding this thing like an express elevator to hell, I can see Petra a level below me as Cayde salutes her as he falls, clearly enjoying his crazy ride.
A few minutes later
As Ghost and I descend into the broken subsections to assist Cayde we feel a pulse of power, strong enough to knock us back. It was in this moment that the Ghost and I realised the only thing that could have caused such a pulse was Cayde's Ghost. "Cayde's Ghost, she's dead… without her there is no way to bring back Cayde is he dies." Redoubling my efforts to reach Cayde, hopefully in time to save him from death. With brutal efficiency I bring down hive after hive, fallen after fallen, and taking down something that looks like fallen but not the same, one after another they crumple to lifeless corpses as I rush to my friend, one of few. Sprinting around the corner I see Uldrin? Something isn't right, standing with larger versions of the new foe that I was met with on my way here, milliseconds later, my eyes flash to Cayde, holding his chest as he desperately grasps onto life, I go to aim down my handcannon but as the door slides closed I dash over to Cayde, dropping my gun on the ground as I grab hold of his arm.
"Urgh.. -cough- any last words for a dying gunslinger?" I hold onto his arm unsure of what to say, I haven't needed my voice since the Black Garden, but here, now, I need it, something needs to be said but I can't I have no words for what I'm witnessing. "No, didn't expect much" I'm almost forced to watch as the light fades from the exo, noting is left now but the lifeless frame. What am I to report to Ikora, to Zavala, their teammate, fireteam member and friend has died by the hand of the Awoken Prince? What of Mara, how will she react to her brother freeing her prisoners, killing her people?
. .
Vanguard Tomb's
I watch, cold, as Ikora lays the cover over Cayde, the white and gold fabric hiding the damage done to my friend. Zavala, standing there cold as ever, though a hint of sadness and pain can be seen in his glowing eyes. And Ikora? She's the most emotional I've ever seen her. "We need to avenge him, every last one of us, every titan, every warlock, every hunter" The edge in her voice causes a small cold shiver to run up my body, I can feel the void energy leaking off of her.
"I won't bury anymore friends, but we are guardians, we must protect our city our people." Urgh, what kind of person can he be, stone faced and so focused on his city that he would do nothing.
"To do nothing would be…"
"Say it."
"Would be cowardice. We need to hunt down and kill this son of a bitch." The anger in her voice is nothing compared to how she stands, standing tall, the power rolling off of her like water, spreading across the floor.
"We must defend the city."
"Don't worry. Because Uldrin. Is. Mine." The two look at me, shocked, it has been around four years since I last spoke. However I do not care for their shocked faces, spinning on my heel I storm out of the tomb's. Those two can bicker all they like, I have a queen to visit, and a fallen friend to avenge. And Uldrin. Look out because I'm coming for you, and you won't like what I'm going to do to you.
. .
Well that's it for the new chapter one, I will be taking down all the old chapters, but if you'd like to take them and create your own story, message me. First person who wants them can have them. However, you'll need a new title.
Winter out.
