It was seventh year. And Lily Evans was doing her round late one night. It was Christmas break and rounds were shorter due to the lack of students. Being head girl though, Lily had the latest rounds.
James-who she has finally agreed to go on a date with a couple of weeks ago and have been going on since- was doing the main floor and the first floor. Lily second and fourth.
She was just about to check the fourth floor corridor and head back to bed when she heard a noise behind her. Spinning on her heels she seen one of the sixth year Slytherins.
"What are you doing out of bed at this hour?" She asked. Hand close to her wand.
She felt bad for not trusting the kid. But with it being so close to to war, she had no choice.
"Filthy blooded girl. You have no right to be in this school. No right to be here. I'm tired of waiting. It's time to get rid of you." He snarled. And with out her realizing it he pulled his wand out of his sleeve and went to cast a spell on her.
She screamed and went to jump to the side. But before she could she seen a flash of red light. And strong arms pulling her along the hall and into what she assumed was a secret hiding spot.
"Stupid little mudblood. I'll kill you for this!" She heard the Slytherin scream. By this point she was more shocked then scared.
"Sh don't move or make a sound" she heard a barely whisper in her ear. Too soft to make out a voice.
Staying still for what seemed like hours the stranger behind her moved what came out to be a painting. Letting the dimly lit halls bring light to their tight hiding spot. Assuming it was safe she stepped out. Forgetting the stranger behind her.
Lily was had pulled her wand out and was about to walk away when someone touched her shoulder.
"Oh!" She turned around pointing her wand at the person.
James put his hands up in surrender "relax Lily-flower it's just me" he laughed at her as she heaved a sigh.
"I'm sorry James. Just with everything that's going on...thank you." She mumbled out. Turning red for pointing her wand at him.
"You're lucky. I was looking at the map. I finished early and wanted to see how much longer you were going to be. Seen that hippogriff coming up to you. Ran up here and made it just in time I see." He said smiling at her. "Come on. Let's go back to the common room before he brings his friends."
Lily smiled and walked on with James. It may have taken seven years. But secretly she was happy to have said yes to him.
