Even inside Vaults, things aren't perfect. However, it's better than in the Wastes. The residents of Vault 64 learned that the hard way…
The six Vault Dwellers left behind their safe life, thinking that life would be better out there. Overseer Reelton, John Constance, Donna Constance, Jacob Constance, Stephanie Reelton, and Jeffery Davis left the Vault, with only a few stimpaks, a few bottles of water, and two ten millimeter pistols.
They were hoping to see a paradise, like a bit of sunshine, after a year of rain, but were disappointed to stare face to face with the remains of the state of Arkansas. All they could see from left to right were charred trees.
"What the hell! I know there was a war, but it was this bad." young Jacob yelled when he saw the Wastes.
"Yes son, even in my mind, I never thought it would be this bad." Officer John spoke out, putting his hand on his holstered gun.
"How in the hell did I let you talk me into this Stephanie!" Overseer Reelton yelled, "I'm going back."
The little engineer, Jeffery, spoke up, "I'm sorry sir, the door closed."
"So what, just open it." the Overseer said, with a hint of annoyance in his voice.
"I tried when all of you ran outside, sir. Someone changed the password." Jeffery said.
"Who the fuck would do that!" the Overseer yelled.
"Mr. Simmons. He always complained about leaving. I guess he wants to stay in there." Stephanie said.
"Wouldn't he be alone?" Mrs. Constance asked.
"WHO CARES! WERE GOING TO DIE OUT HERE!" the Overseer yelled, filled with panic.
"Calm down sir, I won't let us die." Officer John said, worried that the Overseer would attract a predator.
"Where are we going to go?" the Overseer asked, freaking out. The officer thought.
"Were going to have to find a town." the officer finally spoke out.'
"Were not going to survive a week." the Overseer scoffed.
The six vault dwellers trudged along a narrow road, in what used to be a forest. All they saw were a few coyotes and mole rats, which weren't a big deal. They eventually came across a town, or an abandoned one. They met a few bystanders, and were pointed to a school, which was a some sort of shelter.
Officer John talked to the leader of the organization, and was informed that the town was invaded by Super Mutants. Officer John explained to the others that he agreed to help.
"What the hell!" the Overseer yelled. "Were barely surviving ourselves! And now you expect us to help these freeloaders."
"No. I don't expect you to. But the rest of us are." Officer John spoke out, tired of the Overseer.
"Who do you think you are?" the Overseer asked, getting into Officer John's face.
A fist hurdled into the Overseer's face. "The only reason you're not dead."
