I do not own Rise of the Guardians, or any of the characters. Just my own in this fic.

She was in the dark. There was noone in sight.

'Where am I?' she thought. She couldn't seem to remember anything beforehand.

She looked around, for a sign of life, for a sign of anything, but there was simply nothing but blackness. And quiet. Oh
so quiet. She blinked her eyes, even slapped herself, something that had become very common for her, but nothing changed.

Suddenly she heard something. A breath. A faint echo of something.

"H-Hello?" her voice sounded like a parade.

"Bernadette" she gasped and spun around. Nothing, yet whoever uttered her name sounded so close to her ear.

Didn't she recognize that voice?

"Bernadette" This time she whipped around with her arm raised to defend herself, but she hit nothing but air.
Her breath quickened. She absolutely knew that voice.

"Leave me alone." she took small steps, not feeling the difference between closed and opened eyes. "Why do you still
torment me? Why can't you just leave me alone?"

She heard someone running. Faint at first, then they started to become louder, closer. Faster. In spite of the darkness,
she saw a shadow move in the corner of her eye. Something crawling up her back and arms. Frantic, she swiped her arms,
desperate to get the things off of her. She felt for her back, and knew instantly it was a spider. She grabbed onto it,
feeling the hair between her fingers, and threw it. Another one on her back. The footsteps came closer to her, but then
moving away again, as if just passing her. Then coming closer again, louder and faster. Something again moved in the
corner of her eye. For an instant she saw a pair of eyes, before they closed and were never seen again. Cold hands
trailing her arm, her leg, her neck, her hands. Laughter that seemed to echo all around her.

She couldn't take it anymore. She screamed. She screamed until her throat turned raw, until it felt like her throat would
bleed. She tried making out words, but all her horror came out in a scream.

It could've taken her hours to realize that throughout her screams, everything had stopped. The spiders, the footsteps,
the cold, clammy hands. She fell on her knees, still tense. She could feel herself start to shiver, her heart beating
rapidly. She knew that any fear, any nightmare, could make itself present at any moment.

And it did.

A figure appeared before her. He put his hand on her head, and petted her hair, almost affectionately. She suddenly felt
too tired to move. Not even when he latched onto her hair, tightly, and brought his mouth next to her ear.

"I will not leave you alone, my dear, because you are just too much fun." he chuckled, his breath cold. She shivered
harder.

That voice, she absolutely knew that voice, seemed to echo throughout her head. She gave into him, exhausted, and started
to sob.

My name is Bernadette. I was first visited by the boogeyman when I was a little girl, and he has plagued me ever since.
Adults have always told me that the boogeyman doesn't exist. Even in my teen years. Even as I left my teen years. I
tried to believe them. I did as they did - write my terrors off as nothing but nightmares, night terrors, paranoia, anxiety.
But the truth has always been there, in the corner of my subconscious, smiling, just like him.
The boogeyman does exist. And, for some merciless, unexplained reason, he still haunts me to this very day.

Okay, so I wrote this out of the blue (kind of). I also can't believe I'm uploading this, but I honestly just
want to hear other peoples' opinions. Just tell me anything, let me know what you think =)
(Also, this girl had a different name, but then I thought of the song 'Bernadette' by IAMX, and I was like
'ooooohhhh' =D )
