Thunder Storm.
Made for my little sister who cried during a storm today and inspired me to write this.
Holly Gibbs woke up in a cold sweat, it was raining again. She shuddered because she didn't like rain. She pressed her feet on the wooden floor of her bedroom. Her four year old body trembling as thunder rumbled.
"Daddy!" she wailed. "Are you here?" She began to cry, he'd left her and she was all alone in the dark house. "Help me!"
"Holly!" Gibbs rushed into his daughter's room and saw her curled up on her carpet. "Are you okay?"
"I thought you left me daddy," she wailed. "Thunder is scary." She buried her head in his shirt as the thunder started again.
"Don't worry Holly, it's just thunder," he assured her, patting her on the back. "I'm here."
"Thank you daddy," Holly looked up again. "When will it go away?"
"Tell you what, if we count between every thunder then the higher we count the further away it is," Gibbs said. "And after that, what do you say about some hot chocolate?" She shot up and nodded enthusiastically.
As if on cue the next thunder came and Gibbs started counting. "One, two, three, four, five…" thunder rumbled again. This time Holly joined in. "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight…" they chanted together as the next thunder rumbled.
"See, it's going away," Gibbs said reassuringly. Holly kept counting with him until it was finally up to twenty three.
"So, what do you say to some hot chocolate for being such a brave girl?" Gibbs asked coaxingly. Holly nodded and led her father downstairs.
NCIS
An hour later with Holly asleep, Gibbs looked over to the photo of Kelly at his bedside.
"I miss you guys," he whispered. "But thanks for giving me a second chance." He gave the photo a kiss goodnight and settled down for a peaceful sleep.
