I always wished that Ryuji and Ami would have been together, instead of Taiga, so I thought about writing a fan fiction about it. So I thought a good part to start this was at episode 18 when Taiga and Kitamuru go to make the stars for the tree, and Ami, and Ryuji are left alone in the supply room . Hope you enjoy.
Prologue
Taiga and Kitamura left to make the stars, but only after some serious insisting on Noto's part.
"Aisaka, don't hold the scissors like that! It's dangerous." Kitamura instructed in a worried manner, whilst walking out the door, and then demonstrated the correct way to hold the object. "Hold them like this"
"Why, why, they sure are getting along well." Ami chuckled, with a smile gracing her features.
Nanako got up, and in an obvious attempt to get Ami and Ryuji alone, addressed Maya. "Come on, why don't we go and help out over there."
The door was closed behind them, causing Ryuji, and Ami to be shrouded in a transparent darkness, both still visible to the other.
"Seriously what are they trying to stir up?"
"Huh, stir up what?" Ami asked, naivety spun throughout her voice.
"Don't play dumb, you know I'm talking about." Ryuji exclaimed, glaring slightly at the closed door. "Taiga… Uh… liking Kitamura. I don't really understand. Lately it seems like everyone's trying to pair them up."
"You're really obsessed with this," The blue-haired girl looked over to him skeptically. "Are you jealous?"
"Huh?" The taller boy's eyes went wide, confused by his friend's accusation. "Why would I be jealous? I just… get pissed off when outsiders spread stuff about someone else's love life. Or something like that."
"This is how a father feels when his daughter is about to get married."
"I wouldn't know. It's not like I have a daughter." Ryuji shot back with a huff. "Also I've never met my father."
"Not allowing her to fall, get hurt or cry." Ami explained, staring straight ahead, eyes unseeing. "Watching the most precious woman of your life, get taken away from you by another man. Not knowing if that man will treasure her as much as you do."
"I've never had those thoughts."
"Surely it won't be fun for you to watch Yuusaki, and Taiga date, right? Its like the total opposite Your not her father, but you treasure the woman you're determined not to lay a hand on. You already have another woman in your heart. It's like playing house. You three know exactly what characters you are. It's like pretending to be daddy, mommy, and baby." The bluette fell back, out of breath from her speech, and lay down on the cold floor.
"What are you saying?" Ryuji yelled, heart palpitating quickly.
"Why do you have to pretend to be daddy?" The vacant look in Ami's face returned. "Your relationship with Taiga seems really unnatural, I think you should stop playing this childish game of house. You've been making mistakes all along. Why don't you wake up before you get hurt even more? You should forget everything and just start over. Then… you could also give me another chance."
"Huh what?"
"Never mind. Just pretend you didn't hear anything." She stood up and darted her gaze to the floor, seemingly fascinated with a piece of lint rolling about. "What was I even talking about? Just forget everything I said."
"Huh?"
"After all what you really don't understand is yourself." Ami walked out, completely fed up with his inability to see what was right in-front of him, looking him in the face all along.
Ryuji sat there for a few minutes, deep in thought. Why am I playing daddy? Throughout the rest of the day, Ryuji couldn't stop thinking about their encounter. "Maybe I'll listen to her…"
