We Meet Again
Chapter 1: Paintings
2010
The water tasted much better than any other water. I remember that much. But I can't for the life of me remember one other thing about the day that I became an immortal. I think I had fought with my mother and father, but I can't be sure.
I haven't been back to there for years. I wish I could see Jesse again, but with how far away from my original home, that will never happen.
"Your art has been bought!" my friend Jana squeals.
"Really?" I stare at her in shock.
Painting has become a hobby for me, but I never expected any of it to sell.
Jana nods vigorously.
I take a drink of my soda as I stare at the empty spot where my painting of the tree where Jesse and I met had recently hung.
"Who bought it? Do you know?" I ask Jana.
"Sorry," Jana shakes her head.
"I just want to talk to the person," I shrug.
"We can find out, probably. Talk to the owner of the place," Jana suggests.
I nod.
"This is so exciting! Your first painting has been sold! Why aren't you jumping up and down and screaming?"
"Because I haven't had five cups of coffee," I look at her pointedly.
Jana scowls at me, mocking anger.
I laugh at her. "Let's go ask who bought my painting," I pull her towards where I last saw the owner.
The owner, Penelope is her name, smiles. "You're the new artist! You're painting was sold! Congratulations."
I smile broadly and proudly, nodding. "Thank you. I was just wondering who bought it."
Penelope looks at the clipboard in her hand. "A… Jesse Tuck."
And I swear, my jaw drops to the floor.
