Max woke to the sound of his alarm and turned it off so that it wouldn't wake Zoe. He looked down at the woman who was curled around him still fast asleep with her head resting on his chest. He took in her perfect appearance and how she looked so relaxed ad content when she was sleeping. Max loved when they had days like this when it was just the two of them, the days when she would let all of the walls fall that she had built up over the years to keep her safe; seeing her in her rawest form like that was special to Max as he is one of the only ones that she lets see that side of her.
Although it was in moments like these that he did question how he ever became so lucky to get Zoe and wondered how all of that chasing and awful flirting actually worked but he tried not to dwell on that too much in case she realised that too and decided to leave.
Max was interrupted from his thoughts when he sensed Zoe starting to wake and waited until he saw her eyes flutter open to say "Good morning" to which she responded to by groaning and snuggling into him further "do you know what today is?" Max asked her after watching her for a bit lighter.
She appeared to be thinking about it with a look of confusion on her face until she replied "no, what's today?"
"Our valentine's day celebrations, duh" Max responded smiling at the adorable look of confusion she had on her face.
"But Valentine's day is tomorrow Max"
"Yeah I know, but I also know how much you dislike it so I thought that if we celebrated today you would love it because it's not actually Valentine's day" Max replied as if it was a stupid question to ask.
"Of course, sorry for asking" Zoe replied sarcastically which earned a chuckle from Max "so how do these celebrations start?"
"With cuddles obviously" Max told her enthusiastically wrapping his arms around her even tighter than before.
It was now the evening and Zoe'd had the best nearly valentine's celebration that anyone could imagine. Max had been brilliant all day he'd cooked breakfast, made them a picnic for lunch which they ate on the balcony and then made an amazing dinner with Zoe's favourite for desert, chocolate cake. They'd also watched movies most of the day cuddling on the sofa. There was also kisses, lots of kisses obviously. So in other words today was Zoe's idea of perfect and for Max any day that was spent with Zoe was his idea of perfect.
As they climbed into bed and cuddled together for the millionth time today Zoe leant up and kissed Max on the lips "Thank you for today, it was perfect" she told him giving him another quick kiss before lying back down.
"You deserved it, I love you Zoe"
"I love you too, Max"
