My second piece for the 'Dominoes Game Challenge' - Pairing: Lily/Luna.

Lily Potter had always admired her son's best friend.

Luna was admittedly appeared a little peculiar to the everyday observer, but the red-haired mother knew different. Lily Potter worked in the department of mysteries, and seers were closely watched and often integrated into the department itself.

Lily wasn't posted in the Hall of Prophesies often; her focus mostly being the time chamber, but just like her colleagues she knew that seers were very powerful. It's why she had cultivated her son's friendship with the blonde in the first place.

As Luna grew up from the adorable little five year old missing her two front teeth to a fanciful ten year old, from a bullied young teen to a confident zoologist, Lily continued to keep a close eye on the seer.

The years passed and Luna grew more and more beautiful; her personality absorbing in ways that her deceased husband James had never been for Lily.

Lily knew the time was coming when her department would want Luna, and she both dreaded and longed to have the closeness of being colleagues with Luna. With Harry being away on Quidditch tours, Lily had seen less and less of Luna in the more recent years.

Naturally she was curious when the newly turned twenty-two year old turned up at the modest house she lived in.

Floating across the wooden floors on her tip-toes, Luna smiled absentmindedly at the bewildered mother before helping herself to some herbal tea.

"Luna dear?" The question was light and slightly perplexed.

"It has occurred to me that very soon you will be asking me a very mysterious question. I'd just like to assure you that I will say yes."

"You already know you want to join the department?" A smile tugged at the edge of Lily's lips. Leave it to Luna to not wait for the actual job offer.

"Actually, the jabber-squeaks don't want me to join yet. I was referring to the fact that you'll be inviting me to dinner on Friday. Wear that lovely black evening dress you have."

With a kiss on the stunned cheek of the elder lady Luna slipped out of the house, humming as she continued out of the neighbourhood.

Lily blinked out of her stupor and took a lengthy sip of the tea Luna had left behind.

"It's a date then."
