Reunion

My body felt rejuvenated. It was no longer the 50 year old cancer-riddled body it had been just before I died soon after the birth of my first grandchild, Suzanna Lynette Hadley Durbridge. I looked and felt 18 again.

I wondered vaguely where I was. Heaven? Hell? Somewhere else entirely? Surveying my surroundings I saw a familiar sight but with one key difference. I was stood on the beach where I'd spent much of my childhood, where I'd had my first kiss. My heart leapt for joy at the figure that was stood 50 yards away towards the sea. I would know that man with chestnut-brown hair and storm-grey eyes anywhere. He was my first love. He was my daughter's father. He was Callum.

I no longer cared where I was. I raced towards him with childlike abandon, my bare feet sinking into the white sand. I hugged him tightly as though if I let him go he would just fade like a mirage.

'I love you Sephy,' he whispered. 'I should have told you years ago. I love you.'

And then he kissed me.
