Byron Arclight was not the same when he returned from his trip with Dr. Faker and Kazuma Tsukumo.

He was no longer the loving father his three sons knew. Now he was merely an empty shell that did nothing. Once in a while, he would stir slightly as if moved by some urgent purpose, only to then relapse back into that stillness that his children found highly unsettling, his amber-colored eyes fixed on some point in the distance.

Christopher, his eldest son was terrified. At fifteen years old, with his brother Thomas just twelve and his other brother Michael just ten, Christopher took over as head of the family. There was no choice. If it became known that their father could no longer care for them, Christopher and his brothers would be taken away from their father and possibly separated.

The eldest Arclight was not going to let his family be torn apart. Heknew if that were to happen, it would destroy his little brothers, especially Michael. Sweet, tiny Michael who began each day braiding their catatonic father's hair and ended each day snuggled beside Byron in his chair, hoping that when he woke, his father would be back.

"Do you think Father's ever coming back?" Michael asked Chris one morning as he divided their father's long, ashy blond hair into three strands and plaited them together. "It's been a week. Is he ever going to come back?"

"I...I don't know," Chris answered truthfully. "I hope he does."

"What if he doesn't?" Thomas asked from his seat on the floor. "What if he just stays like that for the rest of his life? What if someone finds out?"

"No one can find out about us,"Chris told his brothers sternly. "I don't want to scare you, but if someone finds out...they might take us away."

Michael squealed and hugged his father's body. Of course, Byron didn't respond.

"I don't want to leave!" Michael wailed.

"I don't either!" Thomas added earnestly.

"Then we have to keep this a secret," Chris told his brothers.

Both boys nodded.

So, how was this? Should I leave it as a one-shot or do more with it? Let me know and feel free to not flame it.
