Watching the Rain Fall

Chip sat inside his bedroom, thinking about the rain. Thinking about how he used to run around in the rain when he was little. A lot of kids do that, but Chip remembers it for a different reason. His mother used to come outside and run around with him, while his dad would usher them inside and tell them they were going to be sick, and how rainwater would come out of their ears. Chip also remembered pounding his ears, to see if water would really come out of them. His parents chuckled and hugged him. Chip sat inside, happy with his memories.

He sighed, knowing that he would never be able to do it again, now that his parents were dead. He hid behind the superhero costumes and comic book knowledge to hide his pain. But he knew someday, he would have to come out and face the real world. 'Thankfully,' Chip thought to himself, 'Today is not that day. But it will happen eventually,' he thought, staring at the rain.
