A little something about football
Danny and Lindsay were watching the superbowl with Clara playing near the couch, enjoying a simple day off together. It didn't happen often because they had worked out their schedules with Mac so that they took turns having the weekend off. They wanted one of them to be with Clara without interruptions but that meant the three of them were more rarely together. Today was one of those weekends and they had planned on thoroughly enjoying it. Lindsay was concentrated on the game, cheering on the team she was rooting for, whereas Danny's mind was on something completely different, which was making him a little --very-- nervous.
"Oh come on!! Dan, have you seen that?" Lindsay exclaimed, bringing him back out of his reverie. "He totally ran interference and the ref let it slide."
It was now or never, Danny thought as he took a deep breath before replying.
"Don't tell me you know a little something about football, please?" Danny asked smirking when she turned and cocked her eyebrow at him. Seeing the grin on his face, she rolled her eyes but decided to play along.
"Why? Is that so hard to believe?" she shot back.
"No, just dangerous."
"Why? You might ask me to marry you?" she laughed and turned back to the TV.
"Yes." He simply answered as he took a black velvet box out of his pocket and opened it. Lindsay gasped. The ring was beautiful, not because it was the most elaborate or expensive looking one but because she could already picture it on her finger. She knew it would be a perfect fit. Just like them.
"Pwetty!" Clara cheered, unknowingly interrupting her parents. Both laughed at their daughter. Clara approached her father to climb on his lap.
"For me?" she asked him.
"No, Clarinet, that's for mommy." Danny explained. "If she wants it."
"Mommy want, it pwetty, and mommy pwetty." Lindsay smiled at her daughter's logic, then leaned in to kiss Danny.
"Yes." She whispered before her lips touched his. Danny smiled into the kiss and would have taken it deeper if Clara hadn't been in the room, or simply not on his lap. Once they broke apart, Danny took the ring out of its box and carefully placed it on Lindsay's finger before dropping a kiss to her hand.
"Yey, mommy, more pwetty!" Clara cheered, having no idea what the ring really meant.
"Not as pretty as you, baby girl." Lindsay said while tickling the toddler who giggled gleefully.
Watching the two most important people in his life, Danny let out a contented sigh, what more could he possibly want out of life? He had a good job, an amazing baby girl he would kill and die for and the mother of said baby girl had just agreed to marry him. Danny Messer had a nice life and he wouldn't trade it for the world.
