You don't really need to read Finding TLT to understand this. I think.

But, that story is about how the gods find the first book and read it. Poseidon left just before it got to the part where Sally was taken by the minotaur aka Hades.

At the end of that chapter, Athena volunteered to go and get Poseidon.

That little summary may bring you up to date.

Athena strode down the walkway of Olympus, in a vague sense that she knew where Poseidon was.

As she reached the outer rim of Olympus, she stopped, looking around for Poseidon. As she looked around, she saw the ocean in the distance. This was the only place on Olympus that you could see the ocean, therefore, the place Athena thought Poseidon would be.

"Looking for me?" Someone asked from behind her.

Athena spun around to see Poseidon.

"Yes." She drawled. "New chapter."

"Oh." Poseidon looked over her head and focused on the sea.

"If you don't mind me asking, why did it upset you so much that you had to leave?" Athena asked carefully.

"I didn't want to hear it again." Poseidon replied softly, looked down.

"I was hoping for a little more information than that." Athena snorted.

Poseidon's head snapped up and his eyes flashed in anger, but it quickly died down.

His shoulders slumped. He walked around Athena and sat on a bench so he could over-look New York.

"It hurt. Having to leave her. And then, to protect Percy, she married Gabe Ugliano." (That his last name?)

"She?..."

"Sally. Percy's mother."

Athena nodded in understanding. "Wait." Athena said abruptly. "She married that inhumane mortal to protect Percy?"

"Yes. I'm not sure if it says it in the book, but he also…abused her. Physically."

Athena's eyes widened in horror and her mouth dropped open. "Your telling me, that Sally married Gabe to protect Percy, then he hit her? Why didn't you do anything?

Poseidon laughed darkly. "I tried. But Zeus… well, he can be very stubborn sometimes."

"Oh."

"Yes. I nearly started to grovel." Athena laughed.

"That would have been a sight to see. I would have video tapped it."

"Oh, I know. I wasn't about to make a fool of myself. But, looking back on it, if he would have let me go, I would have started to grovel. Nobody deserves that kind of treatment."

"You know, maybe I got you wrong. I thought you were a womanizer and disrespected other people." Athena started.

"What do you mean?"

"Seriously? Coming into my temple? I shall never forgive you for that."

"Right." He would have said sorry, but, for all Poseidon knew, Athena was tapping this interaction.

"But, maybe, maybe, you can respect people. Sometimes."

Poseidon let that sink in.

"We should probably get back." He started. "Everyone will be wondering where we got to. If we're gone to long, they may think you caught me in your temple again."

"If that ever happens again, I will personally throw you off of Olympus." Athena warned.

"Ma'am, yes, ma'am!" Poseidon saluted.

"Idiot." Athena mumbled the whole way back to the throne room.

So… too mushy?

Lady Alice.
