Wrong Turn

'Yue' shone brightly above the bay, which was named in her honor, illuminating the Air Temple Island. Lin was counting leisurely steps towards the docks, after enjoying a lunch with the former avatar's family. She missed this, Lin admitted to herself. She missed the company of the crazy family over dinner, which has now grown to include several air benders. For the last sixteen years, she had constantly missed the eventful, joyous, and always calming dinner time at Air Temple Island.

Lost in thought, she had taken the narrow path that led, not to the docks, but to the steps of the meditation pavilion. Shaking her head to clear out her foggy mind, Lin turned on her heels to walk to the docks.

"Lin!" Tenzin's voice called from the pavilion, making her turn back.

"Took the wrong turn" Lin said, giving him a small wave.

Tenzin took four long airy steps to land in front of her. "I see!" He placed a hand on her back. "Let me walk you".

"That's absurd". Lin deadpanned. "I can walk by myself just fine"

"I know!" Tenzin smiled again leading her forward. "I know Lin".

"Thanks for the dinner" Lin said after a while, softly. "I missed this".

Tenzin felt his heart drop at those words. He missed this too, an awful lot. He missed having her at his side while his crazy siblings ganged up against him. He missed walking with her, under the dazzling moon, side by side, enjoying the cool sea breeze. He missed kissing her goodnight. As the hold on her shoulder tightened, Lin heard him mumble, "I missed this too".

"I was supposed to turn right at the giant rock, not left". Lin said, as they reach the boulder separating the two paths that led to docks and meditation pavilion.

Tenzin sighed. "No Lin" He said, coming to a halt and making her turn to face him. "We were supposed to turn right at the giant rock, not left".

Tenzin watched as 'surprise' flashed in her brilliant green eyes. Lin kept staring at his grey eyes before she broke away, exhaling a breath she did not know she held.

"Yet we turned left" She said giving him a sad smile.
