There were so many colors.
The purple from the bruising that surrounded both eyes and swept down to his cheeks.
The blue that was in the worst parts.
The yellow that was around the edges.
The black of the stitches that held the gash together on his forehead.
The orange stain of the disinfectant they had used to wipe the germs away.
The red of the dried blood still stuck in his light hair.
The green of his eyes that peeked out from behind pained, weary slits.
That was the only color that mattered to Sam. The others would fade.
