All right everyone, I decided while working on Saving Grace that I should revamp this story! It seems like a lot of people liked it, but I started working on it as a middle school student. Hopefully this story will still be one you all love once I'm done tweaking and reediting. Be on the look out for the improvements!
Terrified was high on the emotions one Yusuke Urameshi was feeling today. Though at eighteen he still had his reputation of being an infamous street punk, he had settled down a bit. He'd fought against all types of odds and many different demons, but nothing terrified him like this; his pissed off drunk mother telling him he was going to see his equally temperamental half sister. Which normally was great. Except he hadn't seen her in years due to all the shit the damn toddler would put him through. Saving the world was exhausting!
Atsuko Urameshi hollered for her son, "Yusuke! Get your ass in gear, we're leaving! Honestly if I didn't know any better I'd say you didn't love poor Kagome anymore!" The only time she was sober was when they went to visit the Higurashi household.
"I'm coming ya crazy banshee, quit screaming!" he yelled back. "You know I love Kagome, I've just been busy!"
"So busy you haven't seen her in four years?! Hurry your ass up or I'll leave you. Or better yet I'll bring Kagome-chan to come kick your ass for me!" Being sober left Atsuko cranky, especially with it being early in the day so that they could make it to the Higurashi shrine by early afternoon.
Hearing the threat made by his mother made him high tail his ass into gear as he jumped into the taxi that would be taking them to the train station. He could fight with his mom all day, but Kagome played dirty, and he didn't want to be on her bad side anymore than he would be when she saw him today.
Kagome and the group had just finished another battle with Naraku the weak before and were still healing.
Sango had broken three ribs on her left side and had a deep laceration starting from her back that went around her waist to her stomach where Naraku's tentacle had sliced her. Miroku had fared a bit better, only having minor poisoning from the saimyosho and a cut on his forehead from being thrown trying to catch Sango.
Luckily Shippou had been at the village with Kaede and Kirara at the time or he would've most likely been injured or even dead after this battle. It most likely would've gone better had Inuyasha not run off earlier due to Kikyo summoning him with her soul-stealers.
He hadn't even realized what had happened until he came back upon the battlefield after his rendezvous. Kagome had been hurt the worst, cuts all over her body from Naraku and miasma poisoning as well. Even with her miko powers healing most of the damage she had been unconscious for two days beside Miroku and Sango.
When she finally awoke, she lied there silently on her mat; staring at the ceiling of the hut while thinking about anything other than the pain her wounds were causing her. Eventually, her mind drifted toward her brother Yusuke whom she hadn't thought of in a while.
He was only older than her by a week but he still played the older brother role very well. She had many fond memories of them playing together when they were kids, and how they would protect each other from anyone who was mean to them.
While she was thinking Kaede came in and saw that she was awake, "Kagome child, I'm glad that ye are awake. Did ye need anything now that ye are up?" she asked. Kagome gave her a small, tight lipped smile as she began to slowly attempt to sit up on her own through the pain. "I'm fine." She said hoarsely.
The older miko seeing her struggle, gently helped to ease Kagome up into a sitting position and prepared a warm bowl of miso soup for her, watching to make sure that she took a few sips before she spoke again.
"Kaede-baa-san how long have I been asleep?" asked Kagome.
Kaede hesitated before answering, "Two days child."
Kagome felt her eyes widen when she realized that she had been unconscious for that long and when she belatedly realized Miroku and Sango were still lying beside her in the small hut.
"Are Miroku and Sango-chan alright?" she asked.
"Hai, they're fine." Kaede answered, slowly tending to the small fire in the center of her hut that she was using to keep the soup warm in case they woke up today as well. "They stirred a bit the other day, their bodies just need more rest. The herbs I've applied to their wounds and administered to Miroku for the poison should help them both out just fine."
As Kagome processed all the information Kaede had told her, she realized that today was when Urameshi-san and Yusuke were supposed to come by the shrine.
"Kaede-baa-san, I need to go home for a couple of days, some very important people are coming to the shrine today and my Okaa-san is expecting me. If Miroku and Sango-chan are alright can you please find Kirara and ask her to carry me to the well?"
After rushing slightly to blurt out her request, Kagome realized something else, which Kaede was hoping she wouldn't.
"Kaede-baa-san," she quietly said, "where is Inuyasha?"
The older miko looked away from the younger woman, saddened by the pain she knew she'd be inflicting on her when she answered her question.
"He left earlier after seeing some of the soul-stealers."
Kagome recoiled from the answer as if she had been slapped. First he had disappeared and left them to face Naraku on their own, now he was leaving them unconscious and defenseless while they were injured in battle due to his carelessness.
"…I see." She murmured dejectedly.
Kaede carefully watched the girl who had first come to her time as a naive child thrown straight into the middle of wars and famine. She didn't deserve the heartbreak that the hanyou was putting her through. She deserved someone who would treasure all that she was; all that Kaede had watched her become.
At first it had seemed like she would be lost in the despair and hopelessness that surrounded her and the jewel, but then she had bloomed into a beautiful young woman, becoming wiser than most at her age and her kindness knowing no bounds.
"Kagome-chan," said Kaede, "go home and rest in your time. I will deal with Inuyasha when he comes back looking for you."
Kirara walked through the doorway with Shippou at that moment, as if sensing they were needed.
"Oka- Kagome-chan! You're awake!" Shippou cried out as he launched himself carefully into her lap. "I was so afraid you wouldn't wake up! How are you feeling? I drew you some pictures that would make you feel better?" He began to pull them out from his vest to show the young miko, making her laugh at all his antics before Kaede interrupted.
"Kirara," Kaede addressed the small feline, "would you mind taking Kagome-chan to the well so she can go home?"
"To the well?" said Shippou, "but Kagome-chan you're not strong enough to stand! You can't get on Kirara like that! Plus if you go home then I can't show you all my drawings…"
Kagome wrapped her arms around the kit and nuzzled the top of his head with her nose playfully. "Well then Shippou, I suppose since you're SO strong, you could help me up to get on Kirara? Besides, I should be back in a few days, so you can show me all of your drawings then."
Kaede and Kirara both watched with amused looks on their faces as the young kit nibbled his lip as he contemplated what Kagome had said before his chest puffed up in pride. "Okay!"
Shippou had transformed into another Kagome and had helped her to both stand and climb onto Kirara, who had laid low to the floor to make it easier. He also decided to accompany them both to the well, claiming that he was only doing so since they needed a protector as Inu-baka was failing at that.
Once they landed Kagome gingerly slid from Kirara's back to the mouth of the well. She hugged each one more time and promised to bring them both back treats from her time before she jumped in.
As the blue light shown around her as she traveled through time, Kagome smiled to herself as she thought about how lucky she was to have a family and home in the past as well as the present.
Chapter One has officially been redone! I'll try to redo a chapter every other day or so. Thank you to everyone still reading! Love you all!
