A/N: Based on the song by the same name by Within Temptation. The first part of a pair, along with Pale.

Meloetta stood on Liberty Pier, the distant sounds of the city contrasting with the crashing waves of the ocean. As she inhaled the salty air of the sea, she was reminded of the day she had met the Pokemon she had once called her love. He reminded her of the seas across which he had traveled, and like the sea, was as unpredictable and wild, while captivating to many.

Mewtwo.

He was a stranger in Unova, from the distant land of Kanto, and from what little she had been able to glean from Victini, that he had ties to Mew. The Unova Region Master warned the psychic Legendary to stay as far away from him as possible, for he was as dangerous as he was powerful. More importantly, Victini recognized that the feline had a strong wandering spirit, and any attempts to be close to him would end in disaster for those not strong in heart. Yet she ignored his warnings, inexplicably drawn to him.

And so she lured him with songs and dances, as she had lured a few Pokemon, and even the occasional human in the past, all of them sucumbing to the trappings of mortality - yet Mewtwo's lifeforce was strong - strong enough to match that of any Legendary. He, like her was immortal, and in her mind, a perfect companion. Oh what a fool she had been!

She attracted him easily enough - he was drawn to her like the tides to the moon. Unlike many of the males she had seduced, he didn't immediately catch on to her advances - although he aptly deflected her psychic probes, she observed that he seemed confused and uncertain towards her subtle advances. She eventually reached a crossroads where he prepared to journey onwards, and she knew that she would have to bare her mind and heart to him, lest she lose him forever, or spend eternity chasing him. And so, with the fear in her heart that comes with one's first true love, she did so, and begged him to stay.

And to her amazement, he did.

Under the light of the Singing Moon, when her powers were at their strongest, she sang him the song of her heart, and she found herself drawn into a passionate and sensuous romance. They spent nearly every moment together for a year, and never in their lives had any been happier, both believing that they were destined to be together. Yet as Meloetta gazed upon the Singing Moon hanging over her now, she knew that their time was at an end.

As the winter became colder, so did her mate, eventually falling into depression coupled with fits of irritability. Meloetta had tried to stand by him as best she could, had tried to guide him to happiness, desperate to reclaim the time that the beginning of their romance had brought. He wandered far from their home above the Casteilla Cafe where Meloetta often sang and danced in the evenings, much to her annoyance. Had he found a new love? Victini tried to soothe her fears and again attempted to counsel her, encouraging her to persevere and that she would be given happiness twice that which she had previously known, but she angrily dismissed him. What did he know of love? He who had spent an eternity in his lighthouse. Who was he to try to lecture her? He knew nothing! She had loved Mewtwo, but his distrust and anger and depression had made her loving mate into a monster. Victini was wrong, it was the way he really was, their time together had been a lie, and she was done devoting her energies to attempt to fix something that was clearly unattainable. Her heart rebelled against her, but she clamped the feeling down as hot rage filled her, a song of anger and rage leaving her, in stark contrast to the song of love, sensuality and hope she had sung last year.

She was through. They were through.

Having made up her mind, she turned her back on the sea, and her mate.
