"Goodnight, girls."

Gru kissed each of their heads as he tucked the blankets up to their chins. All three girls were exhausted after a long day, and definitely ready to go right to sleep when Margo noticed something sticking out of Gru's back pocket.

"Gru," she inquired. "What's that in your pocket?"

"What? What - Oh, that is nothing. Do not worry about- Hey, what are you doing?"

Agnes had snuck up behind him and grabbed the tiny velvet box out of his pocket. Giggling, she ran off and showed it to Margo.

"Wait! No, Agnes, come back with that!" Gru scolded. Margo gasped dramatically as she opened the box. "What is it, what is it?!" Edith asked eagerly, hopping out of her bed and dashing over to Margo. "It's a ring!" Margo breathed.

"A RING?" Edith and Anges gasped in unison.

"Gru, are you going to PROPOSE to Lucy?!" Margo said in shock.

"What? No! You are crazy in your head. That is... a spy gadget, yes, for spy things. I found it in the lab. Recently." He snatched the box from Margo's hands and shoved it back in his pocket.

"Liar." Edith accused.

"I am not a liar, Edith. This is a spy gadget. It... Shoots lasers, yes. And-"

"Gru! Tell us the truth!" Agnes whined.

Gru sighed, irritated, and sat down on the floor. "Yes, okay, fine. I WAS maybe going to propose to Lucy. Maybe." He added as all three girls started grinning uncontrollably.

"Wait, was?" Margo asked, sounding slightly disappointed. "Like you were, but you're not going to anymore?"

Gru put his face in his hands. "Yes. No. Maybe, I don't know."

"But you have to propose! Lucy is the bestest mommy in the world!" Agnes jumped up and down.

"Why wouldn't you?" Margo added.

"Are you scared she'll say no?" guessed Edith. Margo and Agnes joined in, guessing different reasons.

"Don't you like her anymore?"

"Is the ring not good enough?"

"Are you a fraidy-cat?"

"Is-" "No! It's not any of those. Of course I still love Lucy, and the ring is perfect, and everything is fine. I just..." He hesitated. The girls leaned closer, listening intently. "I do not know how."

"What do you mean, you don't know how? You just get on one knee and-"

"No! I know HOW but I don't know HOW. See, it makes no sense!" He sighed. "But when a boy proposes to a girl, usually he tells her why... Why he wants to spend the rest of his life with her." Gru's voice quieted, and he seemed more like he was talking to himself. "But I cannot do it."

"Why? Is it because you don't want to spend the rest of your life with her?" Agnes asked quietly, looking heartbroken.

"No, it is because... I have to tell her the way I feel but I cannot. She is... Too beautiful to be putting into words." His voice broke slightly, as though he was about to cry.

"Awww..." Margo and Agnes cooed.

"Eww!" Edith gagged.

Gru sighed and stood up, folding his hands behind his back. "I will... figure something out. Goodnight, girls." He said dismally as he walked towards the door. When he opened the door, he jumped as he saw Lucy standing in front of him, one hand over her mouth in shock.

"Lucy! Er... How long have you been standing there?" Lucy threw her arms around his neck and Gru saw tears in her eyes.

"…Lucy? Are you alright?"

"Oh, Gru." She sobbed. "Of course I'll marry you."

Woaah, everybody. Thank you so much for all the awesome feedback. Didn't see it coming, especially on my first real fanfic! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
