This is just a little something that wouldn't leave my head so I had to write it to get it out. Set post-epilogue.
The cemetery in Godric's Hollow was covered in a thick blanket of snow. The sunlight glimmered off the white crystals. Ginny Potter knelt down at her husband's grave and placed a single white rose next to the headstone. Her fingers traced the letters of his name on the headstone.
"Hey Harry," she spoke, "I just…I wanted to tell you…I know I haven't been coming as often lately but…there's been a lot going on. The kids are all in Hogwarts now; Lily was put into Gryffindor with her brothers. They're all having a great time. They miss you of course."
Ginny paused and looked to her left where Hermione was kneeling next to a headstone as well.
"Harry…when you and Ron were killed…it tore all of us apart. I…I could barely function for a while. Things just got so crazy and…I know it's only been two years…but…I…you know I love you and I always will, you know that. Hermione and I…we just…we found each other in all of this. God I know it's weird and strange, we are practically family but…each of us…we've got something the other one needs. Somehow our bond got so much deeper through all of this. We just…we didn't plan for it to happen, it just kind of did. I love her, Harry. After the kids went back to school after the battle we didn't know what to do with ourselves. We tried working as much as we could but it just…it wasn't enough, you know?"
She paused again to look at Hermione who had let out a quiet sob.
"We…we're not planning on a marriage right away or anything. We both agree that it's just not…it's just not the right time. Maybe in the future or something, I don't know. You gave me some of the most amazing memories in my life, Harry. Our three beautiful children…I will never, ever forget the love we shared. I just…I think of it as making new memories, you know? She makes me happy and I know that's what you would've wanted. The kids are okay with it we think…they seem to be. My family was a little…well they were shocked to say the least. They understand though. We're going to talk to the kids about maybe this summer…maybe having Hermione and Rose and Hugo move into our house. It's a really big step, I know. She just…we love each other, there's no doubt in my mind."
Ginny turned and looked up at Hermione who was now standing behind her with a hand on her shoulder.
"I promise I'll take good care of her, Harry," Hermione said. "I really do love her."
Ginny stood and embraced the brunette.
"I love you 'Mione," Ginny whispered.
"I love you too Gin."
"We'll be okay…"
"As long as I'll have you I know I will be."
The two women intertwined their gloved fingers and glanced back at their husbands' headstones before walking out of the cemetery.
