Gregory House hated conferences.
He hated dealing with people, though the way many of them fawned over him wasn't so bad. He was a brilliant diagnostician who was known worldwide, and he deserved to be fawned over.
He was unfortunately being forced to attend this conference, give a speech, and schmooze with potential donors. He promised himself repeatedly that after this monkey affair, he would find the nearest bar and drink himself into a stupor. Maybe even find a hot girl to take back to his hotel room.
He was so caught up in his fantasy that he missed the woman walking toward him with a pamphlet in her hand. Their bodies collided, and they landed in a tangle of limbs on the floor.
"I'm so sorry!" the woman squeaked, and he was about to verbally attack her when he caught a glimpse of big blue eyes and a soft pouty mouth. He swallowed hard.
"No, it was my fault." He got to his feet, then reached down and took her hands, gently pulling her to her feet.
He was a solid foot taller than her, even with her heels that were at least four inches. Her brunette hair fell in long waves past her shoulders and nearly to her waist.
She picked up her pamphlet, then extended her hand toward him. "I ran into you. The least I can do is introduce myself. My name's Allison."
Hesitating, he finally took her slender hand. "Greg."
Her blue eyes twinkled mischievously, but before she could speak, her name was called across the room. "It was nice meeting you, Greg. Sorry about knocking you over." She hurried away from him.
He stared after her, then turned around and walked away. But when he gave his speech several hours later, he saw her again in the sea of faces watching him.
After the speech was over, he hurried off of the stage and went after her.
"Allison!"
She turned around quickly, and he gave her his most charming smile.
"Do you want to get something to eat?"

The next morning, House awoke in his hotel bed feeling refreshed and incredibly satisfied. After dinner the previous night, he had charmed her into joining him in his hotel room. And while she was a little on the inexperienced side, he had not been disappointed.
He reached across the sheets, expecting to find a warm, sweet body to pull into his arms and hold close. But the sheets were cold, and he sat up.
"Allison?"
With a deep disappointment, he realized that any sign of Allison was gone. He got out of the bed and walked around the hotel room.
As he came to the dresser, something caught his eye. There on the top of the dresser was a delicate looking necklace, and as he picked it up, he noticed a heart shaped pendant dangling from the chain.
Studying it for a moment, he finally tucked it safely into his pocket. Then he got dressed before leaving the hotel room.
For the rest of the day, he tried to track down Allison. He didn't even know her last name, and by nightfall, he gave up and went back to his hotel room to pack up. He had a flight back to New Jersey first thing in the morning.
When he got home, he tried once again, unsuccessfully, to find Allison. It was almost as though she had vanished into thin air.
At the end of the week, he took the necklace out of his pocket and placed it gently in a small box. Then he tucked the box into his dresser drawer, never suspecting that he might run into her again one day.
The End.
