He lazily lifted his golden eyes to the heavens above. Bright specks of light dotted the dark canvas of the night sky. He would have found them beautiful, had they not reminded him of the eyes of a certain young miko.

He closed his eyes, taking in the soft breeze that brushed against his pale cheeks. The chill reminded him of the coldness created by her absence. He knew she was with his half brother and her friends at the moment. She was probably smiling or laughing, ignorant of his melancholy thoughts of her.

He opened his eyes, catching sight of the shiny spheres in the sky. In a moment of unwanted clarity, he was struck with the realization that like those orbs of light, she was forever out of his reach.

She shone bright for everyone's enjoyment. Her radiance is not aimed at him, nor was it for him alone. If he wanted any part of her glow, he was forced to share it with the rest of the world. But he was selfish, and that alone was not enough.

He wanted more, craved for more. He wanted her radiance for himself, but he was too fearful. Indeed, he, Lord Sesshoumaru of the Western Lands, feared returning to that dark world deprived of her luminosity. The reluctance accompanying that fear transformed him into this pathetic state, forever pining for her.

As the night wore on, the stars, oblivious and aloof, continued to twinkle, mocking him in his loneliness.

A/N: This is my first post in years. I hope this short drabble showed how I've improved during these years. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. :)
