Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter.

A/N: You know, there's not really anything about what happened at Hogwarts in DH in the books. We know a little of what went on, but sometimes I wonder what it was like for Neville and the rest of the new D.A..Neville sat alone in the Common Room, thinking about things that had happened this year. So much had changed; now, he was the leader of the reformed Dumbledore's Army along with Ginny.

He heard footsteps coming down the stairs, and he turned to see Ginny, tired-looking with a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. She walked slowly over to Neville, and it was then that Neville could see that she looked the most worn-out out of everyone in the D.A.. He also knew that she hadn't been herself, knowing Harry wasn't safe anymore, and it seemed to be taking its toll.

"Couldn't sleep," she muttered.

Neville nodded. "Same here."

Ginny closed her eyes and whispered, "Do you remember life before Dumbledore died?"
Neville nodded sadly. "It seems so far away now…sort of like a blissful place we want to go back to…"

The two sighed. Neville closed his eyes, picturing the somewhat happy life he used to have before Snape was headmaster.

Ginny turned to face Neville. "Neville, I need you to promise me something."
Neville nodded, wondering what he was in for.

"Should anything…anything happen to me…" she sighed, "you'll be the best leader the new Dumbledore's Army has seen…"
"Why would anything happen to you?"
"Can you keep a secret?"
"Yes."
"I'm not coming back after winter break," she whispered hoarsely.

Neville's eyes widened. Sure, he had been in charge by himself occasionally, but the thought of him being alone running the new Dumbledore's Army was too much to bear.

Ginny continued on, "My family and I are going to hide, possibly. I don't know. I just know my mum doesn't want me here anymore…I'm sort of relieved because I've been afraid that things will get worse, but at the same time I want to stay and fight for Harry, to be his strong Ginny…"

She turned away. Neville could see a silent stream of tears sliding down her face, and he felt sorry for her.

"No matter what you do, Harry will be happy for you. Your safety is what matters most to him," he replied.

Ginny muttered, "I'm so worried that he's not okay…I don't know what I'll do-what any of us will do-if he d-dies…"

"He won't die," Neville whispered, "He's The Boy-Who-Lived…he wouldn't die without a fight, anyway…"

Ginny began to cry softly. "I just can't be happy without knowing he's okay…I can't sleep because I dream of him…I can't focus because I'm worried…I just want him to come b-back…"

Neville said quietly, "I can't say I know how you feel exactly, but I worry about the people I care about, too."

"Like your grandma?" Ginny said.

"My grandma, my parents…" Neville said, quieter than before, "Can you keep a secret?"

Ginny nodded quietly.

"I worry about her," Neville whispered, "the girl I love…"
"Who's she?" Ginny asked.

"Luna," Neville said, "She's Luna."
Ginny nodded.

"We're going out," Neville said, "Not so much now, obviously because of Snape and the Carrows, but last year we did…I love her so, so much…"

Ginny nodded. "I know the feeling…"
And so they sat the rest of the night, just the two of them, the warm fire, and the knowledge that they could trust someone.
