I was driving yesterday when Alan Jackson's Where were you (when the world stopped turning) came on the radio. This just popped into my head as I was listening.

It was the anniversary of 9/11. The team didn't have a case so they were sitting around the office. Emily was more distant than usual. It wasn't going unnoticed either. "Hey boy genius, what's up with Emily?" Morgan asked leaning on his desk.
"What do you mean?" Reid looked over at the woman in question. She was completely focused in her work. "Em? Hey Emily. EMILY!" Reid all but yelled."
"Huh? Wha… What?" Oh sorry Spencer I was just really focused. Did you need something?"
"Are you feeling okay? You seem distant."
"I'm fine, just trying to get some of this paper work done."
JJ walked in and said, "Are you sure Em? You don't really seem like yourself."
"You know what, I'm not feeling as well as I thought. I think I'll take the rest of the day off." Emily stood up and grabbed her jacket, "Will you guys let Hotch know? Thanks." She left without getting a response.
JJ headed towards the door. She called over her shoulder, "I'm going to follow her and make sure she's alright." The guys nodded and JJ ran out the door and after Emily.

JJ had followed Emily all the way to Arlington National Cemetery. She followed her into the cemetery at a distance. She watched as Emily stopped in front of a monument. She slowly started approaching the other woman. As she did, she saw Emily gently place her hand on the monument and run her hand over it. JJ gently placed her hand on Emily's shoulder. "Em, Are you okay?"
"I had family in all three buildings you know."
"Oh?"
"My uncle worked in the wing of the Pentagon that got hit. My sister and cousin worked in the twin towers. They couldn't escape."
"I'm so sorry Em. I didn't know."
"It's okay Jayje. Today just always hits a little hard."
"I understand Em. Why didn't you take it off to begin with?"
"Working keeps my mind off the guilt."
"What guilt Em? You didn't fly the planes into the buildings."
"No, but I should have spent more time with them. I always avoided the big Prentiss family dinner by saying I was busy."
"Emily you couldn't have known this would happen."
"It doesn't mean that I was right in avoiding my family."
"That guilt is always going to be there when someone you care about dies. It's proof that you cared about them."
"Thanks JJ."
"No problem, hey did you want to do something today? You know get your mind off of this."
"You know what there is."
"What is it Em?"
"I want you to go spend the day with Will and Henry."
"What about you Em?"
"I heard my mother's in town. I think I'll go and spend some time with her and maybe my cousin's wife and kids."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah I'm sure. I can't spend more time with them, but I can spend more time with the rest of the family and make it up to them that way."
"Okay Em. You know I'm a phone call away if you need me right?"
"Yeah, thank you so much." JJ gave her a small smile and nodded. The two walked out of the cemetery together and left.

I thought it was plausible since her mom was an ambassador and Emily says she has a very political family. Let me know what you thought.
