"Arthur!" cried Merlin desperately"You have to stop! Stop them! Please! They're hurting her!"

Arthur looked at him mercilessly.

"Shut it Merlin, its not as if she's actually important the skanky bitch, in fact I might go and dispose of her right this minute"

Merlin punched Arthur square in the face. Arthur staggered backwards, surprised but soon recovered and punched Merlin back – harder. Merlin fell onto the floor in a heap but moved just before Arthur's foot could contact with his head. Unfortunately for Merlin, he wasn't so lucky the second time. His head and neck felt like they were going to explode. Arthur dragged Merlin upright and slammed him into the wall. Merlin's head was spinning as it had contacted with the corner of the mantle piece. He felt blood trickle down the back of his neck as Arthur punched him again, this time in the stomach. Merlin crippled over in agony, his insides clawing his soft skin. Arthur grabbed him again and pulled his arm behind his back so hard that Merlin yelled and his arm gave an ominous clicking sound. He heard someone scream loudly but then he heard Arthur's voice harsh in his ear.

"So, Merlin, have you learned to shut your little slut mouth or do you need a little more quieting down?" Merlin grunted and tried to free himself from Arthur's vice like grip. Arthur threw Merlin onto the opposite wall where he froze on the ground, blood now covering his face and chest. Arthur stared down at him before pulling a curved knife from his belt. Merlin was terrified but before he had time to move Arthur had already slashed the blade into his shoulder. Pain spurted through Merlin's body causing him to scream in anguish. His blood now seemed to have a mind of his own and was flowing like a waterfall. By this time the fight had attracted a great many viewers. Out of his half closed, bruised eyes Merlin saw Gaius rushing towards him a look of great concern and anger on his crinkled face. Arthur slashed again and his cheek was on fire with pain and blood and pain and blood and pain and…blood. That was when Arthur struck him across the side of the head so hard he lost consciousness.

The next time Merlin was awake he was lying in his bed with 3 worried pairs of eyes staring down at him.

"Merlin, thank goodness!" said Gwen.

"How do you feel Merlin?" asked Gaius.

"Terrible" murmured Merlin. Every inch of his body seemed to scream in agony when he tried to move and he flinched when he felt a hand on his shoulder.

"Merlin, sweetie it's your mother" Merlin relaxed when he heard this and allowed the hand to stroke his damp hair and his un-scarred cheek.

"You shouldn't have punched him Merlin, he could have killed you" said Gaius.

"He was going to kill you though!" Merlin said as loudly as his body would allow and tried to sit up.

"Woah there Merlin your not going anywhere" said Gaius firmly gently pushing Merlin back onto the bed "Arthur was under an enchantment, which controlled him and led him to believe your mother had used magic against the kingdom" he concluded after Merlin glared at him.

"Did he hurt you much?" he asked his mother nervously

"Not as much as he hurt you sweetheart" replied his mother
