Just a short little story of my interpretation of what happens at the end of Dream Drop Distance. Bit of writing practice. I know I haven't posted anything since Attraction ended BUT I am working on a few stories. They just happen to be really involved so it takes a lot of work. Anyway, here's a little something to prove I'm still alive and writing. Enjoy!
There was a chorus of voices calling his name as Sora opened his eyes. The first thing Sora expected to see, after the obligatory Donald/Goofy glomp, was Riku's look-who-had-to-save-you-again smirk. Instead, after pushing off the overemotional dog and duck who were on the verge of suffocating him, he came face-to-face with the last person he expected to see. A person who had died in front of his eyes near the end of the last journey.
He looked slightly different but Sora was sure of his identity, "Axel."
Axel's expression softened into a smile, "Hey, kid."
Sora leaned in close to inspect the red-head and gave him a firm poke on the nose, "I see…." He said contemplatively before breaking out his trademark smile, "I'm glad."
Axel raised an eyebrow at the brunette demanding an explanation. It wasn't like Sora to be deep and cryptic.
Sora ignored the look from his ally and instead swung around to Mickey, Donald and Goofy, "Where's Riku?"
Immediately a dark look fell over all the faces of his friends. Mickey was the one to answer.
"Sora he-"
Sora's eyes roamed the room until they landed on the silver-haired boy unconscious against the wall.
"He should have woken up when you did….. Sora, he may be lost." Mickey admitted. A tense silence followed as Sora watched Riku's strangely peaceful face for a moment. The heavy atmosphere in the room was suffocating.
Sora took a breath before quickly putting on a smile and swinging back to his downtrodden friends, "What're you all looking so down for?"
Donald and Goofy looked at him surprised.
"He's fine. He'll wake up any minute now gloating about how he had save me."
"How do you know?" Axel was the one to ask but the others were thinking of it as well.
Sora smugly tucked his hands behind his head and answered without a hint of doubt in his voice, "Because he's Riku."
"You're right." Mickey agreed enthusiastically helping lift the depressing atmosphere of the room.
Goofy and Donald shared a look which clearly said they were still worried but if Sora was so sure everything would be okay then surely it would. Sora moved towards his cartoon companions keeping his back firmly to Riku.
"Now, who wants tea?" Sora asked dragging Donald and Goofy away from where Riku was sleeping.
