Bedtime Story

Hermione sat on the bed, little Jessica sat in her lap while her husband, Severus, finished off the potion he was working on.

"I'm tired Mommy, where's Daddy?"

"He'll be here in a minute Kitten."

"Can you start my bedtime story?"

"Of course. Which one do you want tonight, Kitten?"

"Babbitty Rabbity and her cackling stump."

"Ah, the 'Tales of Beadle the Bard'." Hermione stood and picked it from her daughter's shelf. "This is one of my favourites too." Hermione smiled, remembering when she had the translated version published, a year before she gave birth to Jessica Elian Snape. Getting comfy on the bed again, Hermione opened the book to the right page as Jessica snuggled close. "Ready?"

"Yes."

"A long time ago, in a far-off land, there lived a foolish king who decided that he along should have the power of magic..."

Fifteen minutes later, Severus stood in the doorway to his daughters' room and watched, for the first time, as Jessica fell asleep in his wives arms as she read her bedtime story.

"Daddy?" Jessica whispered.

"I'm here Kitten." Severus sat on the bed with his angels. One either side of him. "I'll finish it Petal."

Hermione nodded and snuggled closer, letting his silky voice wash over her.

"Babbitty hoped out of the grounds and far away, and ever after a golden statue of the washerwoman stood upon the tree stump, and no witch or wizard was ever persecuted in the kingdom again." Severus silently close the book and sent it to it's place of the bookcase that was their daughters' ever growing personal collection. After sitting for a few minutes, simply watching his girls, he shifted slightly, waking his wife.

Hermione slid off the bed and picked Jessica up, allowing Severus to stand and pull back the duvet. Smiling, Hermione carefully lay their daughter down and Severus pulled the sheets up to her chin.

"Sweet dreams my special little Kitten," Severus whispered to her, pressed a kiss to her forehead and stepped away, letting his wife through.

"Sleep well my beautiful little girl," Hermione whispered, then she too kisses her forehead before turning to her husband and embracing him.

The pair stood and watched their daughter sleep for a little while before they too retired to bed.

"Jess really does love it when you read to her."

"I can't imagine why."

"It's that silky voice of yours that does wonderful things to me."

"Really?" Severus raised an eyebrow and pressed his lips to hers.

"Yes," Hermione whispered between kisses ...

The end.
